William Ashley Hinson was born in Plymouth, North Carolina and grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and the Piedmont area of North Carolina. He has lived in the Murrells Inlet area of South Carolina since 2004 with his wife and three children. He has only recently moved to Charleston, South Carolina where he is supporting his oldest son as he attends the College of Charleston. William received my Bachelor’s Degree from High Point University, and has taught history in the public schools for ten years. He has published numerous family history books over the years.

Discovering Ancient Giants is a closer examination of the evidence for the existence of ancient giants in our remote past. The author has put together ten years of research in the subject of ancient giants in one really exciting book. Hard evidence of ancient human giants has never supported this theory. Now, the amount of evidence is pointing to the realization that human giants did in an earlier time exist. This book is a non- fictional approach to this taboo subject. This book is a great source of knowledge of evidence supporting the existence of human giants in our past history.

Is there any evidence that human giants existed in our remote past?
Modern day archaeology and anthropology have nearly sealed the door on our imaginations, broadly interpreting the North American past as devoid of anything unusual in the way of great cultures characterized by a people of unusual demeanor.

The great interloper of ancient burial grounds, the nineteenth century Smithsonian Institution, created a one-way portal, through which uncounted bones have been placed. This door and the contents of its vault are virtually sealed off to any but government officials. Among these bones may lay answers not even sought by these officials concerning the deep past.

The first hint I had about the possible existence of an actual race of tall, strong, and intellectually sophisticated people, was in researching old township and county records. Many of these were quoting from old diaries and letters that were combined in the 1800’s from diaries going back to the 1700s. The title pages of the early county and pioneer history books often included phrases like “carefully written and compiled” and “lest we forget.”

Sometime before archaeology came to subscribe the general public to its view of prehistory: generations prior to Darwin’s troublesome theory, the pioneers thought that some of the earthworks were as ancient as could be concurrent with human habitation in America. Some among the early settlers exercised their pens assured that the earthworks were not built by the direct ancestry of the native people living in the historical period, but rather were constructed in a more remote era encompassing a different social order. They compared the “Mound Builders,” with the “Indians,” clearly discerning the former as
belonging to an earlier time, possessing a different fate or destiny from the latter.

Evidence for the occupation of this country before the appearance of the red man is to be found in many states throughout this country, as well as throughout the world. In removing the gravel bluffs, which are numerous and deep, for the construction and repair of roads, and in excavating cellars, hundreds of human skeletons, some of them of giant form, have been found. A female citizen of Marion County estimates that there were about as many human skeletons in the Knolls of Marion County, Ohio as there are white inhabitants at present! (The History of Marion County, Ohio, compiled from past accounts, published in 1883).

Amazing finds were also made in California about 1810 and in Montana in 1924. One was that of a six-toed giant, the other was the skull of a man found 130 feet deep in a lava-covered mine. A human molar embedded in an Eocen coal measure was found in November 1926 in No. 3 Eagle Coal Mine at Bear-creek, Montana, and in strata anywhere between thirty and seventy-five million years old. An amazing skull—of a giant man with double rows of teeth all and massive jaws was found on Santa Rosa Island in the Santa Barbara Channel, California. It has a singular tie-in with the statement in the old Babylonian Talmud, called the Berakthoth, that the giants before the Great Deludge had double rows of teeth!

Many of these discoveries were made early in the nineteenth centuryand in one case where a giant man’s skeleton was exhumed by soldiers at Lampock Rancho, California, the Roman Catholic padre ordered the skeleton to be reburied because the local folk swore it was the skeleton of a god.

These remains were often discovered accompanied by cemented gravel six feet thick lying under volcanic ash—the sign of an ancient cataclysm—ancient metal skillets, beautifully made plummets of syenite, strange inscriptions on ancient artifacts, sea shells lined on the inside with gold and worked with unknown inscriptions, carved blocks of porphyry engraved with hieroglyphs, hieroglyphs on hard rocks covered with iron scale, queer slate tubes and cylinders, and well-made pestles and mortars. All of these, of course, are evidence of ancient civilizations.

In 1947, a newspaper account of someone finding thirty-two caves with remains of what appeared to be 8 to 9 ft. tall giant human skeletons. These caves bordered Arizona, California and Nevada. The giant skeletons were still wearing what appeared to be skins from some type of animal. The clothes resembled that of pre-historic times. This find was first discovered years earlier by a man who then reported the find to the Smithsonian. The remains were stolen after that conversation and a cover up seemed evident.

The Smithsonian was also named for other cover-ups through the years when others reported their own findings. Was it possible that these findings were scooped up by the Smithsonian or did they report the findings to another organization that wanted to keep this information secret? Were there giant people walking the earth many years ago? If so, what made them so big? Why did the giant population disappear from the earth? Why are the accounts of giant people kept relatively quiet? Why is there no word from anyone about the possibly of giant people that once may have walked the earth?

Mr Hinson has demonstrated throughout this book a masterly and in depth understanding of the subject. Not only are there numerous authenticated eyewitness and newspaper excerpts painstakingly researched from all around the world, but a wealth of fascinating pictorial evidence that will keep readers coming back to this book time and time again. Anyone who still stubbornly clings to the naive belief that modern humanity was only on this earth for less than 10,000 years will have their root beliefs shaken to the core. Shame on the Smithsonian Institute and other such places for denying the world the truth! I for one now view many of the old fairy tales about giants and ogres with a whole new respect, as it is now all too apparent that such stories were based on ancient fact. It is also worthy of note that no matter in what culture giant stories appear around the world, they are almost always vicious, cannibalistic bully boys. This certainly gives credence to their mention in the Koran, the Talmud and the Bible, not to mention numerous Asian/North American tales as well of the giant ‘scourge’ that once plagued the earth and the Great Flood God sent that severely curtailed their number. As Mr Hinson also points out in his work, there have been many well documented examples of giant creatures in the past, whose much smaller descendants are still among us today. Why, therefore, is it unrealistic to assume that at some time humans were also at least twice the size of modern man?

This book is really awesome! I’ve always been curious about giants and the author did a great job at collecting a variety of evidence that ancient giants did exist! I recommend this to anyone that ever wondered about the origins and evidence that giants used to be among us.

ABOUT BARRAK ADAMS

Barrak Adams graduated in Engineering from the Singapore Polytechnic in 1972 and since then has done post graduate studies in Social Science, Rubber and Plastics Technology, Psychology, Training and Development, Radiation Protection and Quality Management. He has been involved in Printing, Property Development, Timber, Food and Beverages, Audio-Visual and Automobile products, Retailing and Logistics, in capacities ranging from Executive, Engineer, Manager, Plant Manager, Project Director and Managing Director. He had been a Registered Management Consultant, Management System Auditor, Trainer and Counselor.

He was a committee member in the development of the Quality Engineering program curricula of the Science University of Malaysia, developed the quality management system for the Malaysian Parliament and various other ministries, and was an auditor for the Malaysian Prime Ministers environmental program. During the development of the Tiger Economies of South East Asia in the 1970’s and 80’s, he was extensively involved in Vendor Development Programs in those countries, catching up with industrialization in a few years what took the West a few decades.

He had successfully set up, developed and sold corporations involved in manufacturing, printing and trading, and worked with industries spanning Europe and the Far East.

In 1991 Barrak started his own consultancy providing services in organisational development, during which period he took an interest in training and people development and spent a substantial part of his time learning how to help people realize their potentials, a skill that was especially useful when organisations were restructuring themselves in the globalization climate.

Apart from writing for his in-house publication, NMA Information Brief, he has developed about a hundred training manuals and workbooks covering a wide range of people and organizational development programs for corporate clients, academic institutions and training providers.

‘Pre-Emptive Thinking: Managing Problems and Threats’ took more than a year to complete, though thoughts on the book started in 2008 at the economic meltdown in the USA that was going to affect almost the entire world. Since lessons learnt from previous financial breakdowns do not seem to prevent new crisis, the search for a more primary cause and control led to the discovery of a neglected thinking skill that had successfully served society for a very long time in human history.

The extensive experiences that Barrak had with governments and corporations, and his more than twenty years of developing people showed how society is managed and how people, who had surrendered their well being to others, can redeem it.

All the exercises recommended in the book to regain our pre-emptive abilities have been successfully used by Barrak in his training programs for more than two decades; thus being written with an insight and comprehension that is rarely seen elsewhere.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT

PRE-EMPTIVE THINKING is about  society having surrendered its safety and security to a system and therefore suffers its consequences. We have all congregated to tightly knitted communities that display the same behavioural characteristics, however different we may look, making ourselves easily manageable and exploitable. The compelling need to seek wealth at an increasing intensity necessitates the surrender of our well being and safety to the tempting system of laws and its enforcement. Where we were once supremely pre-emptive to have dominated all other life forms, with this surrender comes negligence and inadequacy for our safety and security. Where there is lack of vigilance and pre-emption, exploiters will surface and we invite problems and pain. Should we be exploited or abused we leave the remedies to that system, not to be distracted in our pursuits, a system, that having failed us in the first instance, is incapable of redeeming itself. And we see our men losing their nobility, our women their grandeur and the children grope for meaning. This happens to us physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually.

This book, ‘Pre-Emptive Thinking: Managing Problems and Threats – The Way to Live and Work,’ or ‘Redeeming Your Heritage: Pre-Emptive Thinking – Managing Problems and Threats,’ discusses this in a hard hitting and inspiring manner, proposing a means for us to regain our pre-emptive abilities. Its style is creative non-fiction, with humour, facts, soul-searching and solutions.

IT IS IMPORTANT that society does not continue to head towards it own destruction as predicted by both hard-nosed scientists and competing fortune tellers. There must be something in the human make-up that had caused us to outlast all challenges and catastrophes to emerge as the most sophisticated life form. Calling this characteristic Pre-Emptive Thinking, this book shows us that it is a natural and powerful human characteristic that will make us outdo once again, the ability to pre-empt and stay independently trouble and threat free. The thinking that used to show us approaching dangers and problems, that we may avoid, avert or contain. Whether it is instinct, intuition or thinking, we had it in abundance and it served us well. The book takes us through a journey of self discovery. Interspersed with stories of average people and poetry, we are inspired to believe in ourselves. We learn how this thinking contributed to our success before, and how we lost it in a ridiculous manner, how our brain is the natural source and fountain of this ability, waiting to be rekindled, and what we will have to do to once again take charge of our lives. The exercises recommended for this thinking are so simple, that one is led to believe that creation never meant to make it difficult for humans to live well. Using examples and applications across communities and corporations, we are shown the fundamentality of this thinking for all purposes.

ORIGINAL in exploring that we are born with pre-emptive and vigilance capacities that is systematically removed by a social order, also created by us, so that we can indulge in immediate gratification activities, for which we then sacrifice some amongst us. The book tells the story of gazelles and how every so often one of them is killed for the rest to run away and graze. Before this, parallels have been drawn to a similar situation in human society. The story of the gazelles crystallises this situation and challenges the reader to seek solutions. The book does not challenge the system. There are too many such texts. This book tells people that it was our ‘pleasure seeking mind’ that brought about this situation and what we now need to do.

IN A CONTROVERSIAL MANNER, unlike almost all other such books on the status of society that blame the governments, the Bildeberg Group, the Illuminatis, and other such supposed organisations, the book groups everyone, including the reader, into the Economic Man. And shows how this man created a system to generate wealth that required people to be non-pre-emptive. And how, society, for the immediate gratification of many, permits the sacrifice of some. There are many Pandora Boxes opened in the book that will require future editions and series to cover.

And by showing that organisations are also deluged by the same situation, the book hints that it is not some elite group that manipulates society, but we, by our behaviours, are the causes for the current social helplessness and vulnerability.

WHY WRITE, AND PUBLISH NOW?

Why have we thought of every other thinking except pre-emptive thinking? The book explicitly shows that there is such thinking. It occupies the space between preventive and corrective thinking. It is active, unfolding foresight, mostly of concerns. The book answers how our pleasure-seeking-mind is the reason for our neglect of this thinking. How it ignores or procrastinates any action that will deny it of pleasure, even if the consequence is pain in the long run. We are finally reaching the stage where the pain resulting from the pleasure-actions are surfacing in society. It is now that pre-emptive thinking will be acknowledged to serve its purpose.

People need a viable solution. Blaming others is rhetoric and not the solution. The healing and solution has to take place within each of us. People are ready to accept this responsibility.  People realize that for a long time we have been blaming invisible forces as the reason for our social problems. They are ready for an alternative. And many in society will be willing to expend some effort to resolve this.

OVERVIEW

Mankind has abandoned its safety and well being to a system to devote themselves to the generation of wealth that they do not seem to be able to keep. The message of the book is that since the advent of the Economic Man, we have been imperceptibly moving in this direction, surrendering our security to a system that by its very nature and structure is not capable of fulfilling this trust. Communities and society, and not the individual, have become the statistics to measure the well being of mankind. When individuals experience losses because they have forgotten the ability to avoid and avert threats, the event is a statistic of society to be addressed when it reaches a significant level. And even then, in crime for example, these numbers are reclassified to bring them down, consoling people to pursue their passion of work and rest. Fortunately the very nature of man is to be pre-emptive, to observe and interpret the unfolding of events and behave in the appropriate manner to protect what is his responsibility. The human brain is designed to do this exceptionally well. And it is possible for mankind to rekindle this capability within all of us. The book is about what we had and lost, what is the outcome of this, and what we can do to regain this heritage.

Chapter One pictures the lives of a pre-historic man who was successfully pre-emptive and a modern man in New Orleans who constantly faces troubles due to a lack of pre-emptive behaviour. The Conclusion of the book tells of the events of one day in the lives of three persons who have regained their pre-emptive capabilities and are successful in the conduct of their lives.

Between these two chapters, the reader is taken through a journey of understanding what pre-emptive thinking is and how it is practiced or not practiced in different endeavours of society today. And how this thinking ability was active in early societies, from hunter gatherers to the political and religious man, and then it began to fade away with the advent of the economic man. The Freudian mind is analysed here to understand how the Id was largely contributory towards this.

Having successfully pointed the finger at the economic man, the book turns its attention to the systems that the economic man implements to enhance the continued generation of wealth, and how the very fundamentals of those systems are incapable of maintaining efficient operations. Various failures of the system that had impacted mankind profoundly are brought to attention, taking the arguments to a global level from where readers can easily relate to the message. The book then brings us back to look within ourselves, and where in our makeup is the seat of pre-emptive thinking that should be able to prevent the catastrophes discussed earlier.

Thereafter the book speaks of the brain and its inborn ability to be pre-emptive, and why it is not effective and what has to be done. Here various consciousnesses, intuition and instinct are discussed. And to develop these pre-emptive abilities the book takes the reader through a series of simple exercises and life-styles, though explaining the depth of some of these exercises that are seldom put into print, if ever at all. The readers are shown how to regain their pre-emptive abilities to lead a safer and secure life. Relationships are drawn to the pursuits of the economic man that he too may apply it to the industries, though by this time it becomes clear that this thinking ability is applicable across all aspects of society.

Stories and events in the lives of individuals express the ideas of the book from a real life perspective. Many case studies are presented across a wide range of organisations and families to show the need for this skill. The four poems carry the spirit of the pre-emptive being in all of us through the book.
This is a self-help book, written in a fluid fast manner, setting the pace for readers to want to continue. However it is also an extensively researched factual book, controversial and hard-hitting that will cause readers to reflect on it. There are no difficult words used. But sentences are connected and set the pace. The ideas and proposals will be of interest to persons from all walks of life. Corporations will be interested for the book also analyses how corporations are trapped in the non-pre-emptive-thinking syndrome.

THE CORE AUDIENCE is the general adult reading public, corporations and the public sector. Barrak Adams is currently developing training programs, to be franchised, that is targeted for the corporations and the public sector.

PEOPLE WILL BUY, READ AND TALK ABOUT IT, for the book presents a naturally existing, much needed and yet ignored form of thinking. It shows how we always had the capacity for this thinking at our disposal and what to do to use it. By tracing the history of society, from the pre-historic man to the current times, the book throws new light on what happened to us that we have neglected our independence and its prestige to serve a purpose that we are not clear about. It throws new light on our mental numbness and surrender.

The book has many new viewpoints that will make good tea-talk topics. For example:

And also what satisfied the customer at first becomes the norm next and a defect thereafter, for the customer’s expectations continue to increase. It is a vicious cycle. Competing marketers promote quality and satisfaction that is subtly higher that what is actually offered. You cannot take them to court, but the marketing design, graphics, vocals, colors and media delivery are almost always better than what is finally gotten. It is no wonder that customer satisfaction is never fulfilled and we are on a rollercoaster of product and service development, variation and re-presentation that does not see a stabilizing alternative.

Or – A disgruntled people rebelled. Revolutions and civil wars led to democracy and communism; both, proclaiming equal rights for all, fought for the hearts and minds of the people. Democracy won, the free market came about and possessions and positions became the symbols of success and stature and the desires of individuals, families and society, giving birth to the Economic Man, dedicated to the generation and accumulation of wealth. Where taxation and tithes, fines and penalties were the means for the Political and Religious Man to channel resources and wealth, the Economic Man concentrated on innovation and productivity. Human creativity, loyalty, single-mindedness, commitment and dedication were the means to channel wealth, for which people had to be free of concerns about their environment and its dangers. To remove distractions to their generation of wealth, a social system that assured people that their families, property, interests and possessions are protected by the state came about, transferring individual responsibilities to the state. People could now devote themselves completely to generating wealth for themselves and society.

Or – And when humans are in such a state of stupor, having abandoned their vigilance, safety and security to the state, amongst them will be some, more greedy and daring, who will deprive them, whether in dignity, freedom, health or wealth.

COMPETING WORKS

There are no competing books that I know of. There are texts on critical thinking dealing with logic and reasoning, and on creative thinking about originality and innovation, whilst pre-emptive thinking involves anticipating what may happen, based on information in both our consciousness and unconsciousness that we may prepare pre-emptive actions to benefit, avoid or contain what is happening. When we practice critical thinking, the experience and feeling we develop allows us to see that there is creativity behind it, and when we extend ourselves into creative thinking we can now see into the realms of pre-emptive thinking. One naturally leads to the next, though each can exist by itself, not because the others are absent, but because they are not cultivated and connected. However the present book does not address this, though the next edition of this book (or another book) will include this, connecting all three thinking skills.

Texts on forecasting deal with mathematical or weighted processes to determine what may happen in the future. Pre-emption, in addition to using data, also uses intuition and instinct.

The book, ‘Foresight – the Art and Science of Anticipating the Future,’ by Dennis Loveridge, published in 2009 by Routledge, deals with institutional Foresight, anticipating the future for decision making, strategic planning and change management, being closer to forecasting. Whereas pre-emptive thinking is the thinking process by everyone to observe the unfolding of events to avoid and avert threats or benefit from opportunities. Similarly other books on foresight deal with leadership and forecasting.

Precautionary principle texts deal with not doing something as the means for it not to be harmful related to environmental management. Pre-emption is when we cannot prevent, but can observe, avoid or contain.

Preparedness is an animalistic, instinctual readiness to recognize and react to certain stimuli. Pre-emption involves cognition; the instinct is not reactive, but responsive. There are a number of books on preparedness dealing with being prepared for war, danger and so on, by storing food, having bunkers, reacting to terrorism and such matters.

The idea that the common person can be pre-emptive has not been explored.

The Story in the Sky - Cover

We found Michael’s book a fascinating, compelling and detailed read and  were also very much taken in by the author’s child-hood ‘spiritual’ experience, and the varied and diverse achievements of his adult professional life.     “The Story in the Sky”  presents as  a book for anyone with a curious and discerning mind, and those questioning some of the  major and most  impacting events in mankind’s history.  This is a book to be enjoyed by both Christians and non-Christians and also provides a fascinating read for those with a strong religious, or  academic and more philosophical background.

Many will find their faiths re-fortified and reaffirmed simply by the revelations and astrological findings and data revealed and discussed within the  pages of Michael’s book.

The author certainly nurtures a most ‘spiritual outlook’ on life, and approaches prophetic historical events and all living things with a very liberal and open mind,  neither taking or leaning towards one side or another where theological matters are concerned.   He has expressed these sentiments most vividly, compellingly and not least humbly,  if in a somewhat unorthodox approach, in the Thesis he has written.

We found Michael a joy to work with every step of the way.   Clearly the author has done his homework and  extensive and thorough research in coming to the conclusions of his findings as expressed in his book, and upon which he structured his amazing story.  The various elements the author used as the building blocks and foundation on which to present this work was through thorough study and investigation of astrological/astronomical and historical data and which gave Michael the opportunity to approach and deliver the story of ‘Jesus Christ’ from an entirely fresh angle.

Michael’ book certainly provokes a whole new way of thinking on how we may come to view this very special ‘man’ Jesus Christ, who changed the tide of history as he went unerringly t about his mission and self-confessed purpose in revealing to the world why he came among us.  His memory was to be a lasting impression embedded within the greater scheme of human history throughout Christianity.

Michael is currently working on the sequel Titled  The 2012 Eclipse: “A WARNING FOR AMERICA AND THE WORLD”, which is an equally fascinating account and quite an eye-opener.  However, he is still unsure of the final title he will be using for this book, which he envisages will be completed sometime in February of this year time permitting.

Book Description

Genre and Source: Historical, Prophetic, Astrological and astronomical

For over two thousand years, humanity has worshipped, questioned, debated, fought over, and died in the name of Jesus of Nazareth.  Christian and non-Christian alike have, to this day, an almost inherent obsession regarding his birth, life and death.

Despite two millennia of study, there remain many unanswered questions.  Was Jesus’ birth an Immaculate Conception?  Was his mother, Mary a virgin?  Was his death fated or subject to Jesus’ free will?  Did Jesus rise from the dead and ascend into heaven as written in the Bible?

Devout Christians accept these Biblical teachings as unchallengeable  “Mysteries”, which must be accepted on faith alone.  Billions of people the world over wish they could go back in time to find out who Jesus really was–and why?  After two thousand years, the question remains:  Does the Bible accurately tell the story of Jesus or, is has his life been hidden from view by religious dogma and political expediency?

In 2009, the Author became intrigued by two questions:

(1)  If Jesus really lived, would his life have been foretold astrologically in the stars?

(2)  What did the Magi see in the sky that brought them to Bethlehem?

These questions confronted both Christianity and astrology with an interdependent test.  If Jesus really lived and if traditional, Zoroastrian astrology was valid, then each should be reflected within the other.  I determined to find the answer to this question as objectively and scientifically as possible.

Using NASA’s catalogs of ancient eclipses, I discovered twelve eclipses between 11 and 7 B.C. visible to astrologers of the Zoroastrian Fire Temple called Azur Gushnasp located at Takht-i-Soleyman in ancient Persia.  One of these astrologers is believed to have been the Parthian warrior-prince Gondophares (known to Westerners as “Gaspar”, one of the three Magi said to have visited Jesus in Bethlehem).

Once the twelve eclipses were isolated, I applied an Internet-based astronomical ephemeris to pinpoint the exact placements of the stars and planets at the time of each eclipse.  However, this was still not enough.  Predictive astrology requires that the exact moment of greatest eclipse be determined–at the precise geographic location at which the eclipse is being observed.  This information is necessary for determination of the astrological Ascendant–without which, no interpretative analysis is possible.

Michael has prepared a full overview and description of around 84 pages, which includes a full and detailed Chapter Summary of the work of and what he did to create this very interesting work, by  isolating certain factual data with other recent research and full astronomical and concurring astrological supporting data which he himself conducted.  He has also prepared an intensive marketing and promotional campaign to make this work a success, and provide his share of author input.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR – An Extraordinary Biography

Michael Tewell is a 61-year-old lawyer, who has spent the last 20 years defending the poor as an Assistant Public Defender in Florida. Over those years he hasrepresented thousands of people accused of crimes from petit theft to murder and has tried over 150 jury trials and has trained other lawyers on trial practice and procedure. Michael lives in the Tampa Bay area with his wife Clementine “Cee Cee” Conde and their son, Alexander.

Michael was admitted to Kent State University’s Graduate School after completing his sophomore year and earned hisMaster’s Degree in International Relations in 1979. He received his law degree in 1982 at George Washington University’s National Law Center in Washington, D. C. While a law student, Michael served internships with the United States Attorney’s Office and the Securities Exchange Commission.

Originally from Hamilton, Ohio, Michael’s spent a sickly youth, constantly battling severe asthma and chronic bronchitis. Due to his poor health, his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona before he was six. They lived in a one-floor bungalow on East Pinchot Drive. At that time, all that stood between Michael and Camelback Mountain was almost five miles of desert. He fell in love with the mountain’s majestic presence where later much of his rather startling inspiration and revelations came to him which he used as a foundation for his two books.

The Author’sBiography has been kept short as much as possible, but  should you be curious to read what extraordinary events Michael experienced as a young boy in the Arizona Desert, then read his books.   In a way, Michael believes he owes his life to that extra-ordinary night of his youth experienced in the Desert and to the “Stars in the Sky.” He believes even today that his knowledge and insight was a gift from the Universal Consciousness. Michael hopes this “Story in the Sky,” in some small way, passes the wheel around once again.

We believe that some of us humans are more spiritually connected, sensitive and influenced by elements of the  invisible realms.  Not unlike all those prophets of old, such as our Christian messengers and well known prophets and bible writers who gave us the Christian Scriptures and prophesies under divine inspiration.   There were also other prophets from various other religious factions and divisions of the Islamic, Muslim and Hindu Faiths over the millenniums throughout history.   All providing spiritual sustenance, guidance but above all offering a renewed hope to a receptive mankind in a turbulent seemingly godless world.   To allow for those with the capacity to ‘believe’ and nurture their ‘faith’ in a new world to come, where they may be reunited in a kind of universal brotherhood under the guidance of a universal God’s divine laws and theocratic guidance.

Published and available now at Amazon.com; Barnes and Nobel, Black Book Plus and various book retailers in the country.

This great read was receiving pre-orders already from various retailers by the Publisher well before the book was scheduled to go to print.  Like music to any author’s ears.    Now that is amazing!

Completed Projects
Co-Author of – Without Fear or Favour – The official history of the Auckland Regional Police – 1990 (published)

ISBN 0-473-00784-3
Eight years of research starting with a team of six, whittled down to just Ken, who wrote and rewrote this 345 page, extensively illustrated book five times until he was satisfied with the style and it was then handed to a police senior sergeant appointed as the editor to prepare it for publication. Apart from a full time 3 month stint writing captions for all of the illustrations, Ken had no further input until launch day when he learned the senior sergeant had plagiarized him by naming himself as the author.
At the official launch he received public apologies and acknowledgements as the author from the Police Commissioner, the Auckland Regional Commander, plus the Mayor of Auckland and Governor General Elect Dame Cath Tizard.  Whilst Ken could claim to be the sole author, much of the preparatory work was carried out by his early team members and he therefore claims only to be a co-author.
NOTE: Whilst conducting this research Ken Brewer made special note of any reference to South Auckland policing with the express purpose of writing about the police stations there in the future.

Author of – The History of the Waiuku Police – 2000 (published)
ISBN 0-473-06650-5
This small 47 page illustrated booklet was written for the Centenary of that police station in April 2000, with encouragement from Ken’s daughter Toni, whose husband was the resident Waiuku policeman at the time. The launch of this booklet turned into the largest event the township had ever witnessed, with a full police parade, air and ground displays, plus a re-enactment and a formal dinner. A local counsellor paid for the publication with all proceeds going to the local museum.

Author of – “Badge of Honour” – The History of the Otahuhu Police – 2003 (published)
ISBN 0-476-00035-1
This soft back, A4 size book containing 399 b/w illustrations in 136 pages was a publication paid for by the author himself with 500 printed. Only a few copies remain unsold and copies – available only through him – have been sent all over the world. Many regard it as a definitive reference to police equipment and badges, and he has been grateful to have received significant praise for it. It was launched by the Minister of Police at that time, Mr. George Hawkins along with Chief Superintendent Steve Shortland the local District Commander. The title was chosen because of the pride he personally felt when wearing the badge and the uniform during his police service whilst at Otahuhu.

Author of – An Illustrated History of NZ Police Badges, Insignia and Uniforms – 2004
This illustrated 122 page manuscript was researched and written by Ken as a result of His voluntary service as the Honorary Badge and Insignia Curator to the New Zealand Police Museum. At the time the new Museum Director had no prior police service or knowledge of police history and Ken had merely prepared an illustrated record of what was in the museum badge collection for her. He was then approached by Police National Headquarters and asked if he could take the project further. The result was an in-depth record of all badges, buttons, uniforms, headgear and insignia worn by the NZ Police since 1845. The resultant manuscript was purchased outright by the NZ Police with the intention of placing it onto their official website for public access. Ken is still waiting for that to be completed as funding for it has been cut.

Overview –  “The Enfield Conspiracy”

Genre: Military Fiction based upon factual events

Word count: 172,686

Number of Pages: 505

Devonshire born Nicholas (Nick) Reede joins the army as a young teenage Ensign and is sent to India where his regiment becomes embroiled in fighting at Lucknow during the Indian mutiny of 1857.  He earns a mention in dispatches then is badly wounded undertaking an outstanding act of bravery.

The senior British officer trapped at Lucknow when the mutiny erupts is secretly on route from Delhi to London with an urgent dispatch containing vital information that could save the life of the Monarch, reveal a secret plot to end British rule and prevent a major war in the region.

Fuelled by hatred for the British, the mutiny was deliberately triggered to prevent the information leaving India and led to the British troops protecting civilians in the Residence at Lucknow being besieged and outnumbered by well equipped native Sepoy mutineers. When the injured Nick Reede is entrusted with the task of delivering the dispatch to England he and his small escort are hunted down by those intent on stopping it at any cost.

Nothing short of a miracle sees him plucked at deaths door from the middle of the Bay of Bengal and thrust into the brig of a penal ship headed for Sydney where, with almost total memory loss and plagued by nightmares, he is suspected of being a deserter. Placed among the lower ranks of a British regiment in Australia he unwittingly makes an enemy of a bully as fragments of his memory start to surface.

Meanwhile the dispatch reaches London in the hands of the last surviving members of the escort party and a global search begins for a missing hero.

Suddenly Nick’s new regiment is dispatched across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand when the land wars threaten and the nightmares begin again. Nick is then pitted against the world’s most fearsome guerrilla fighters the legendary Maori, but his life is also threatened from another quarter. Attacked, captured and ultimately facing a Courts Martial for murder he finds himself facing the greatest challenge of his life.

This manuscript is based on historic fact but is entirely a work of fiction.

Review
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read! December 9, 2012

This review is for: The Enfield Conspiracy (Paperback)
As a female reader I’m not usually a fan of war or historical fiction but this book is a must read. The story flowed easily and is so well described that you feel personally involved with the main character, not able to put the book down until you find out what has happened to him.
As the story is set in the 1800’s, the author has obviously done a great deal of research to ensure its’ historical accuracy. Picturing scenes, places and characters is made easy due to the effort that has been put into describing everything in detail.
I would recommend this book to a wide range of people. My husband and I both loved it and our 17 year old son (the same age as the main character of the book) did as well. The book could even be touted as being able to teach the younger generation all about old fashioned respect, morals, work ethics and sheer guts, as the hero of the story is definitely the type of person you would want in your lifeboat!

Looking forward to the sequel!!!

Author’s gratitude expressed:

Hello there and Merry Christmas,

Well, my novel is finally in print having been published by a New York publishing House in record time. My agent tells me it normally takes 6 to 24 months from contract signing to publication and for a book to be published in less than 2 months is unheard of, especially for a first time author. It is being released first in the USA, followed by Europe. There is no date for an official release in New Zealand, or Australia and this will depend on demand for copies from local retailers and libraries.

So far I have been amazed by the comments of those that have read the manuscript – ranging from professionals to teenagers and oldies like me.

On 17 December, less that a month after publication, I learnt it had broken into the worlds best seller list at number 5,000. Probably due to the two copies I bought! No, seriously – I’m told it is a special achievement.

We are still waiting on reviews from the New York Times and the Boston Globe, but the website Amazon.com already has an independent readers review attached to it that indicates it is enjoyable reading for all genders and all ages. My wife at first refused to read it as it was not her kind of book and said she knew she would hate it. She did finally pick it up and then could not put it down until she finished it and she loved it.

For those who are interested I’ve attached a copy of the blurb about the book along with an invitation to a book launch at Manurewa on 20 January.

THREE THINGS TO NOTE

2. The publisher has agreed to a limited pre-release batch of just 30 copies being shipped to New Zealand for a special launch at our cost. These are scheduled to arrive on, or before, the 6 January 2013.

However, in case they are late arriving – we will advise of any postponement of the launch with as much advance warning as we can give.

The cost should be $35 per copy, but we nervously await what additional duty, if any, that NZ Customs might impose.

3. Purchases will be on a first come first served basis until the 30 copies are all gone.

AN EXLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH KEN BREWER

Author of “The Enfield Conspiracy”

© Emerantia Parnall-Gilbert

1.   How would you describe “The Enfield Conspiracy” to someone who has not read any of your previous non-fiction publications?
Ken:  It is a period military adventure based on a factual historic background and designed to introduce the main character (from my part of the world – Devon) who in sequels, becomes an early New Zealand policeman.

2.  Will your next book be written along similar topics or genres?
Ken: Yes, but based solely in New Zealand in the mid 1860s during the height of the land wars and leading to the main character’s ultimate enlistment in the NZ Constabulary.

3.  Do you expect to explore other Military Historical events which could be of significance, and become an inspiration to write another fine book?
Ken: Yes, but with a leaning towards describing early NZ Police working conditions in an effort to write of a topic not previously covered in fictional novels. It is intended the story lines will be based upon real events in NZ history and provide a “different’ insight in to them.

4.  Which part of researching “The Enfield Conspiracy” was the most personally interesting to you? Were there any facts, specific date or themes that you would have liked to include, but they just didn’t make into the story?
Ken: Learning about the practical and physical details of the weaponry involved and also researching the locations featured.

5.  If readers would like to read up on the history of events of WWI  about similar events that have happened to real life soldiers would these possibly be books you would recommend?
Ken: “The Last Fighting Tommy” by Richard Van Emden (2007) on the life of Harry Patch.
“Last Post” by Max Arthur (2005), who interviewed twenty one of the last surviving soldiers who fought in WWI and told their stories. He also wrote “Forgotten Voices of the Great War”

6.  What are you reading right now? Are there any authors (living or dead) that you would name as influences?
Ken: I am currently reading three books at the same time.
The 702 page Official Biography of Lord Louis Mounbatten by Philip Ziegler (1985).
“With a Smile and a Wave” by Peter Daybell (2005) on the WWI life of Captain John Aiden Liddell VC MC of the Royal Flying Corps and 3rd Battallion Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders.
“Stapme” by David M S Ross on the biography of WWII Squadron Leader B. G. Stapleton DFC RAF

7.  What was the book that most influenced your life — and why?
Ken: Alistair McLean’s – HMS Ulysses – probably his best book, described action during a storm on a WWII Royal Navy ship operating in the sub Arctic waters of the Barents Sea. Apart from being a great story, his descriptive ability actually made me feel chilled at times whilst reading it and he brought the characters to life in my mind.

8.  What are your 10 favorite books —and why?
Ken: “The Biography of Sir Bernard Fryberg VC GCMG KCB KBE DSO” by his Son Phillip Freyberg. Provided astonishing and previously unknown facts of this man’s background.
“Spitfire Women of WWII” by Giles Whittell. Provides amazing insight into a little known but significant part of WWII.
“Wings on my Sleeve” by Captain Eric “Winkle” Brown CBE DFC AFC MA RN, the man who became Britain’s top test pilot in WWII and flew 487 different types of aircraft a and made 2407 carrier deck landings, both records remain unbeaten.
The Harry Potter Series by J K Rowling. Because they are innovative and inventive.

I have a number of favourite authors – Stephen Coonts, Dale Brown, Tom Clancy, Alistair McLean, Harold Coyle, Bernard Cornwall, Len Deighton, Douglas Reeman (aka Alexander Kent), J K Rowling, Paul Brickhill.

9.  Favorite films?
Ken: The Dam Busters, Patriot Games, Hunt for the Red October, the Harry Potter series, The Battle of Britain, The Jason Bourne series.

10.  Favorite music?
Ken: The Shadows, Santana, Mark Knoffler, Dave Brubeck, Frank Sinatra, Phil Madsen

11.  If you had a book club, what would it be reading — and why?
Ken: Books on human achievement, especially through adversity.

12.  What are your favorite books to give — and get — as gifts?
Ken: I usually give bookstore gift cards, but like to select my own choice of reading.

13.  Give us three “Good to Know” facts about you. Be creative. Tell us about your first job, the inspiration for your writing, any fun details that would enliven your page.
Ken: Born in Exeter, Devon and an aircraft “nut” since childhood. At the age of 12 flew in a WWII De Havilland Mosquito.
Hated school, except my last year when they made me a prefect and I became head boy, following a test of honesty. Won a school writing competition with an article on the life of Reginald J Mitchell the designer of the Spitfire.
Became a motor mechanic/technician on a 5 year apprenticeship, studying for 7 years to gain qualifications. My first job was to rebuild a 10 ton truck from scratch. Went on to become the most qualified person in the field of transport in the UK Rank Organisation.
Wanted to join the Royal Air Force but a sporting injury prevented it. Instead joined the Royal Observer Corps, a volunteer organisation and got “called up” for emergency service at the height of the Cuban missile crisis when the world was on the brink of nuclear war and spent a scary 30 hours manning an underground bunker miles from anywhere.
13 years in the Motor Industry in the UK and NZ – 1961 to 1973
Associate Member Institute of road Transport Engineers, Associate Institute of Motor Industries

21 years service in the New Zealand Police in South Auckland – 1974 to 1995
Recipient of the NZ Police Long Service & Good Conduct Medal and bar
Recipient of a Commissioner’s Commendation Silver Clasp

18 Years in the Casino Industry – since 1995

Founder Member of the Friends of the NZ Police Museum – 1984 to 2010

Member of the International Police Association – since 1989

Honorary Badge & Insignia Curator to the NZ Police Museum – since 1990
Recipient of the 2001 NZ Police United Nations Year of the Volunteer Medallion

Justice of the Peace for New Zealand – Since 2006

14.  Tell us about your other life in the New Zealand Police Force for many years and what events in your earlier young life brought you to choose this profession and become part of the Police Force?
Ken: Despite prophetically playing the role of a policeman in a school play, the decision was a sudden and last minute one, having just driven past a recruiting poster in Papakura. It was one of the best decisions in my life. I had become fed up with being constantly dirty and greasy in the motor trade, with blackened fingernails and grubby clothing.
A photograph of me during the swearing in ceremony appeared on the front page of the Auckland Star and I was interviewed on the national TV news that night.
During training at Ardmore I got handcuffed to a chair for a day when my handcuff key broke.
Served for 21 years in total, in South Auckland. This included 9 years in the Youth Aid Section, where I was stabbed twice and the last five years at Auckland Airport, where I met some amazing people, international stars and traveled several times on duty to Tonga, Fiji, Argentina and Chile, plus Australia multiple times.
Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal and bar, plus a Commissioners Commendation brooch.
Wrote a series of regular police related articles for the South Auckland Courier newspaper and became involved in researching and writing the official history of the Auckland Police from 1982. From this evolved the police history books and articles I have written since.

15.  What else do you want your readers to know? Consider here your likes and dislikes, your interests and hobbies, your favorite ways to unwind — whatever comes to mind.
Ken: I seem to have become something of a specialist in NZ Police history, uniforms and equipment and queries made to the NZ Police Museum are often referred on to me.
I have a passion for aircraft, particularly warbirds and older machines.
I love to attend air shows and visit aviation museums.
I have a desire to one day fly in a warbird and my one regret in life is not obtaining a pilots licence.
I suffer from arachnaphobia – a genuine fear of spiders.

16. The Enfield Conspiracy was inspired how?  What interest in the military genre prompted you to write such a story?  Can you tell us how epiphany (of sorts) this came to you?
Ken: This stemmed from my police history research and a desire to write fictional stories – based on fact – about the trials and tribulations of early NZ policing. Traditional histories tend to understate the stark reality of the harsh lifestyle in early New Zealand, especially the draconian regime of the early policeman.
I hope to level the field somewhat, whilst recreating some of the more historic events of the time in an exciting crime-thriller storyline.

17.   We know you have written many other publication (non fiction) during your most auspicious career in the New Zealand Police Force, would you mind listing those titles for us?
Ken: Co-Author of Without Fear or Favour (The official history of the Auckland Regional Police) 1990
The following police history manuscripts were written simply because I had the information and believed that if I failed to commit it to paper it could be lost forever.
Author of The History of the Waiuku Police 2000

“Badge of Honour” The History of the Otahuhu Police 2003

An Illustrated History of NZ Police Badges, Insignia and Uniforms 2004

The History of the Tuakau Police 2006

The History of the Papakura Police 2008

The Enfield Conspiracy 2009 – Fictional Novel – Published in 2012

Other
Editor of the NZ Section, International Police Association Magazine 2008 – 2012

18. Your novel and all military novels always raises the question of whether technology will save us from some future more widespread terrorist attack in which nuclear capability is going to be used by some rogue country and destroy us.  Wars it seems, will always be a part of our human failings, so what are your views on this Ken?  Which do you believe?
Ken: Technology is constantly changing and today the rate of change seems to be accelerating at a speed our forebears could not dream of. Unfortunately, through a multiplicity of electronic media, nuclear technology is freely available to everyone, everywhere, so the risk of misuse by unscrupulous groups, or rogue states is constant. This only limited to a degree by the capability of those intent on misuse, in obtaining or manufacturing such weaponry, but it does not eliminate the threat even from the larger, legitimate states.

19.  The characters in “The Enfield Conspiracy” battle with some tough moral issues…which brings me to ask what your thoughts are on the contest between Science or Religion?  Which do you think will ultimately win this war manifested not only in previous wars throughout our human history, but in the very fabric of the societies and cultures of the world, the discrimination against one culture by another, and the ills these generate on our spiritual wellbeing and religious convictions?  Have you any thoughts to offer?
Ken: Conflict between politics and religion have been the bane of humankind since man first had rational thought and been responsible for more conflict and death than any other cause. Despite this, their very existence has been the foundation of the modern world and each has played a major role in all our lives to varying degrees, shaping the future of whole nations.
An ancestor of mine, Bishop William Brewer who died in 1244, was one of the Crusaders and was instrumental in returning Jerusalem into Christian hands. He was also friend and confidant to King Henry III and as a result he had a foot in both camps, gaining huge political influence being directly involved in the creation of the Magna Carta, the Great Charter of the Liberties of England enacted in 1215.
The problem as I see it lies in the inability, or reluctance of religion to embrace change in the way politics is required to and over the centuries this has created conflict of the most brutal form.
No matter the umbrella humanity elects to shelter beneath, politics or religion, human weakness for power, greed, blind ambition and even ignorance, will continue to plague our lives as long as one group has a desire to impose their own will upon others in the name of politics or religion. Peace comes at huge cost.

20.  We would love to know – are you writing anything new?  Equally as compelling?  Or are you exploring an entirely different genre?  Come on tell us….
Ken: I am working on a sequel but finding long full time work hours and shift work make it difficult to find the time or get into the right creative mood.
I have also commenced on the skeleton of an autobiography of my time in the NZ Police.

21.  What inspired you to write your first book?
Ken: This was a small booklet on the history of the Waiuku Police Station. My son in law was transferred there as the local policeman and I mentioned to my daughter that the house she was living in had been the first police station and would be 100 years old the following year. I had most of the information already and she encouraged me to assemble it. It printed locally and was released during the Centenary celebrations.

22.  Do you have a specific writing style?
Ken: Having read many books I decided it should “grab” the reader right from the start and be an easy, uncomplicated read from beginning to end. Occasionally I have given up on reading a book because I found it difficult to follow, or over complicated in detail. One of my favoured authors – Harold Coyle – is a case in point. He writes “techno thrillers” which on occasion can be lost in the clutter of too much detail which overwhelms the story, yet alternately he is a master of research and getting it right.

23.  How did you come up with the title?
Ken: Amid a plethora of cultural, political and religious unrest, the Indian mutiny was triggered by a belief that the paper ammunition for the new Enfield Rifle was covered in pig fat, when it was actually beeswax and linseed oil. As the paper had to be broken open with the teeth to load the rifle – the mutineers refused to “bite the bullet.” The rifle also played a pivotal role throughout and also ended the life of the main villain. The conspiracy aspect was the reality of political sabotage by vested interests and threats from other nations to take over India.

24.  Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

25.  How much of the book is realistic?I hope it comes across significantly so, as much of the story is factual.
Ken:  The 32nd Regiment did fight during the mutiny at Cornpore as well as Lucknow, exactly as described. The relief column did arrive at Lucknow as described, but in the form of another Regiment.

26. Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Ken:  Sorry, but no.

27. What books have most influenced your life most?

28. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Ken: Bernard Cornwall and Alexander Kent

29. If any, What book are you reading now?
Ken: I am currently reading three books at the same time.
The 702 page Official Biography of Lord Louis Mounbatten by Philip Ziegler (1985).
“With a Smile and a Wave” by Peter Daybell (2005) on the WWI life of Captain John Aiden Liddell VC MC of the Royal Flying Corps and 3rd Battallion Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders.
“Stapme” by David M S Ross on the biography of WWII Squadron Leader B. G. Stapleton DFC RAF

30. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Ken: JK Rowling

31. What are your current projects?
Ken: Working on a sequel.
Commenced a story about myself in the NZ Police
Constantly updating the 400 page illustrated family history that I wrote.
Trying to complete a 1/72 scale WWI airfield diorama.

32.  Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

33.  Do you see writing fiction as a future or even retirement career?
Ken: Whilst I consider myself very much an amateur, it is a definite possibility as a retirement career, which is due to commence in September 2014.

34.  If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Ken: Yes, I would shorten the prologue and remove the reprise towards the end, plus triple check for spelling errors!

35. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
Ken: I put it down to a certain English teacher at school called Mr. Gill who every day encouraged us to find a new word in a dictionary then incorporate it into a written class project.

36. Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Ken: Not just yet. Be Patient.

37.  Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Ken: Yes – Time and motivation at the moment, although motivation is returning.

38.  Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
Ken: For my first novel – No, but for the sequel – Yes.  A trip to New Plymouth where it is based was necessary and proved to be invaluable.
Extensive travel was required for my non fiction books from Wellington to Whangarei to speak with descendants of early police and a few elderly survivors.

39.  Who designed the covers?
Ken: I did in all cases.

40.  What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Ken: The proof reading. It seems I am not the most reliable at it.

41.   Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
Ken: The whole process was a huge progressive learning curve.
My first significant publication was “Badge of Honour” the History of the Otahuhu Police Station, which included over 400 illustrations. Whilst initially acceptable to the publisher they proved at the last minute to be incompatible with their print shop computer system and the whole lot had to be re-scanned in a single 24 hour period as the launch deadline was not negotiable. This taught me to be better prepared in both layout and quality assurance.

42.  Do you have any advice for other writers?
Ken: Yes. Give it a try. Re-read a book you like and copy the writing style. Don’t forget to be descriptive of even the smallest feature, but don’t go overboard with detail. Make it a simple but enjoyable read and the characters believable.

43.  Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Ken: I am somewhat disappointed with the spelling and grammar issues some people have raised in my novel. Much of it will be due to the European variance of American spelt words, but I had three keen family members proof read it and I am led to believe an editor was also briefly employed and still errors managed to sneak through. This could possibly be due to changes that occurred at the publishing end, but in the final analysis, I have to take responsibility for them.

44.  What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?
Ken: It pushed the boundaries of personal knowledge and ability, but mostly it created some family issues with me spending so much time on the computer.

Our Client, and Author R. Milton Quibner

PRESENTING AUTHOR R. MILTON QUIBNER

A most insightful man and perhaps a dying breed, R. Milton Quibner has written a most eloquent work and incredibly thought-provoking book on a very ‘today’ and immensely relevant topic.   That of unraveling the mysteries of what represents typical ‘womankind’ , and what makes this species of human gender so mysterious, fascinating, alluring, mystifying, exasperatingly gorgeous, whilst at the same time being able to display patterns of behavior that could only be aptly described as a profound ‘pain in the butt’.

Yet they are unarguably creatures man cannot ‘live without’, and yet finding an intimate co-existence with one is perhaps somewhat vaguely similar to a juggling act and a haphazard attempt at a ‘happy go lucky’ challenge, by making the continual compromises and sacrifices, swallow that male pride, and pretend it’s a union of heavenly bliss on earth with an alien, albeit on a severely borderline plane of pure insanity.

“HOW HIGH SHOULD I JUMP?”  Is a must read for both men and women alike,  provides a laugh a minute, and offers some very useful information and revealing insights which all males should take to heart.   R. Milton Quibner writes from life and what he knows.  He offers food for thought and pearls of wisdom which other receptive and sensitive males could learn from, arm themselves with, and then hopefully utilize these tips, suggestions and instructions  in order to prepping themselves up to laying the groundwork for a blissful, and successful loving relationships with the gals of their choice.

PROMOTIONS FOR MARCH 2013

Happy News Flash to  Sam at Seaburn Publishing,  and Emerantia my Agent!

6:32 AM (7 hours ago)

I leave tomorrow for Brasil, Sam, but I wanted to let you know of some recent good news on my promotion front:

GlossyNews.com just published a front page review of the book (a satire site); take a look:

http://glossynews.com

Also, just got a great review on Amazon from Dr. Glen Hepker:

Dr. Glen Hepker “Dr. Glen Hepker” reviewed How High Should I Jump?: The Satirical Guide to Pleasing Today’s Woman
A well-written and hilarious satire… March 10, 2013

“Mr. Quibner has set forth a startlingly humorous work, which when reflected against our culture, is quite succinctly/splendidly thought-provoking. I was unable to read it all at once…but each time I came back to it I clearly looked forward to learning more about his outlook on what troubles contemporary men in this regard, i.e., in their interaction with women. It is even scarey in many ways, i.e., because it clearly sets forth notions that are difficult to objectively argue against, and if so, will prompt men to rethink their attitudes and behavior toward/with women. It is an original work, and though set forth in the spirit of good humor, it is difficult not to take it seriously – on many levels. Men typically do not work hard to display adequate appreciation for their mates/significant others, and this book is a funny treatise on how to go about being just that – being appreciative –“

Dr. Glen Hepker

And, getting lots of mileage from last week’s radio interview with Ellen Rathbone’s Your Pleasure Radio:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/authenticyouradio/2013/03/07/your-pleasure-how-to-become-a-don-juan-lover

Big conference in Brasil, then I return for more promotion, got a few radio shows coming and all told, I am doing everything I can, and loving it! Leslie/Milton Quibner!

What’s your honest opinion about women today? Are they money hungry, self serving, sluts who have lost their minds and wouldn’t settle down and commit to one guy if their life depended on it? And what about men? Have they become confused, insecure whiners who blame women for all their problems? We’ll explore these questions and many more this upcoming Wednesday, July 10th with guest speaker Milton Quibner, acclaimed author of How High Should I Jump? A Satirical Guide to Pleasing Today’s Woman. This week’s program will explore the dating dilemmas women are confronted with today, and further expand on where men find themselves in the face of rapidly expanding feminine power. Join Milt and me for what’s sure to be a spirited conversation about role reversal, open relationships, and dispelling the most recognizable double standard of our time.

The Dating Revolution

Wednesday at 8 AM Pacific Time on VoiceAmerica Variety Channel

My show is about what’s going on right now in the real world of dating, and how what’s happening today is shaping the future of our society and culture. The topics I cover will be cutting edge and controversial, and are meant to question what society deems to be socially acceptable with regard to sex and dating. My show will address all the different double standards in dating, and will give listeners permission to step outside comfort zones and challenge social norms. I provide women with an alternative lifestyle of success, freedom and fun, which is becoming ever more popular. My advice also appeals to men because I help women take responsibility for their own dating success, rather than blame men when things don’t work out. My show will inspire women to take control of their lives and not rely on men for validation and happiness. Check it out! The Dating Revolution airs live every Wednesday at 8 AM Pacific Time on the VoiceAmerica Variety Channel.

Heather Jones

I’m a writer who puts a light-hearted, yet honest spin on casual dating and relationships. My bottom line approach to advice provides clear and concise answers to today’s dating dilemmas. I’m happily single, and have been actively casually dating and documenting my experiences for the last ten years. I enjoy being single, and have no real desire to marry or have children. I recently published a book called “F*#k The Double Standard in Dating,” and the reviews so far have been outstanding from both men and women. In my book you’ll learn how to casually date and have a great time doing it. You’ll actually look forward to dating, and by the time it’s all said and done you’ll be loaded with confidence and ready to conquer the world. Personally, I have a very active social life and live a super fun lifestyle that supports my dating philosophies, and I want you to have the same! If you’re struggling out there, or if you just have a funny story to share, I’d love to hear from you so give me a call during today’s show or shoot me a message so we can chat!

to me

Hey, Emerantia, I want to share my Huge News:

Get Over Yourself! The Milt n Mia Show! is now live on ITunes! Yea!

This is the podcast I have been yearning to produce, a weekly show where Mia and I let loose on a wide array of relationship, sexuality and general life problems with street philosophy and a generous does of fun self-deprecation. The show is a half hour or so, and it’s loose, wild, irreverent and, in my view, packed with information, thought and opinion you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

I hope the title of the show tells you our essential direction:

Stop taking your problems so seriously, and learn to laugh at yourself while you change your life to who you actually want to live it.

Oh, and it’s totally free. Yep, you can download and share our podcast to your heart’s content, and that’s fine by me.

There’ll be a new show every Sunday; here’s the show link at ITunes where you can download and listen to us whenever you wish:

Our Client, and Author Wayne Trebbin

We would like to introduce Dr Wayne Trebbin a certified physician in  internal medicine and nephrology.   http://www.facebook.com/wayne.trebbin

Wayne’s first novel ‘Bruja’ is an Adult Adult Fiction/Medical Horror Thriller, which grabs the attention at first instance, and makes for compelling reading.   The settings and location where the story line unfolds is based on Wayne’s personal experiences, whilst working in Africa in his capacity as a Medical Physician.  Wayne Trebbin and his team of associates, all physicians certified in internal medicine and nephrology provide  medical aid to the poor.   The author is also the founder of ‘WORTH’  (World Organization of Renal Therapies), (www.WORTHdialysis.com) a non-profit organization that places dialysis units in the third world and is dedicated to treating the poor, and in so doing he has spent extensive man-hours of his valuable time in the sub-Saharan Africa.

The author has also published a non-fiction work with more scientific overtones which was published in 2006, and is currently working on a sequel to his novel ‘Bruja’.  We include the Synopsis and a short author Biography, and find three Chapters as per your submissions guidelines requirements for your attention as per attachment.

SYNOPSIS :  Bruja

Author: Wayne Trebbin                                                                                                                                       Genre: Adult Fiction/Medical Horror Thriller

The old woman, her visage hidden in the depths of her cowl, had been living in the shadows of Africa for centuries. Occasionally called upon, she would contract missions with the few who dared to meet her. The goal of these missions was always the same…protracted misery and death.  The Bruja’s tools were rooted with the magic of the dark spirits, and it was they who generated her fearsome abilities.

Dr. Mark Michaelson was an American physician who dedicated a considerable amount of his time volunteering in a clinic in sub-Saharan Africa.  The charismatic young physician had, despite is good intentions, made an enemy of a ruthless man whose rage propelled him to take an unspeakable step beyond the pale of natural life…he made a deal with the Bruja.  Although he was soon dead, the man’s bargain stood, and the Bruja set about forming a plan to destroy Mark in a manner fitting her taste.

Jesse Varet was a nurse in a little New England Hospital.  She was also Dr. Michaelson’s fiancée.  Young, beautiful and competent Jesse held the respect of those with whom she worked; and she had the deep love of Mark.

The ayudantes were a small brood spawned by the Bruja.  She cared for them and loved them in her own way. She killed the weak ones and groomed the strong ones, gradually nurturing their dark powers so that they could better serve her.  They were her family; they were her guardians and they were her slaves.  Small at first they hunted as a pack, doing the Bruja’s bidding.  Where they went, death swept in like the cold deep indigo that covers the land when clouds sweep away the full moon. They grew in stature, and their powers burgeoned, but so did their self awareness.

The components of the struggle lock in place.  Overpowered by what they don’t understand, Jesse, Mark, Mark’s assistant and a medical resident find themselves forced to accept things they would have scoffed at before their lives were changed.  Their intellects are their weapons, but their doubts undermine them.  Not understanding what it is that is threatening them terrifies them, but they stand their ground partly because of their nature and partly because there is no sure escape.  The struggle evolves, moving to North America and then back to Africa. Yet Mark and his small group are not without allies. There are people and forces of magic that want to help them and the battle intensifies and casualties burgeon.

As their experience increases their understanding grows and Mark and Jesse become more fit adversaries to the malevolence that stalks them .  This draws the Bruja more directly into the fray, and with this comes an even greater threat to her victims, but it is not without greater risk to the Bruja herself. Her tenebrous powers do not give her invulnerability. The struggle intensifies. They become engaged in a dance of wills, spinning and turning towards a crescendo the end of which will bring resolution, but the nature of that resolution…that is not at all clear.

While the Bruja stalks Mark and Jesse, they, in turn, hunt her.  They discover a vulnerability and exploit the very magic that surounds her.  A fierce struggle ensues and the Bruja is brought down.

With the Bruja dead Jesse and Mark go on with their lives.  This is briefly described as a dénouement. They marry and Mark continues to work part time in his clinic in Africa. All goes well until his plane crashes. Jesse sinks into depression at his apparent death until one night she sees Mark. He survived, but something is seriously awry. The Bruja had passed on some of her dark traits to him, and all is most definitely not well. At this point the story concludes, and while the ending is clean it is set up for a sequel which is now beginning to be prepared.

The story takes place in medical settings both in the United States and Africa. While the story is, of course, fiction the descriptions of medical practices and of places and customs are authentically created based on my personal experiences as a physician in both America and in sub-Saharan Africa.  There is a great belief in magic in sub-Saharan Africa.  People hold to those beliefs not as legends, metaphors or childrens’ tales, but as literal realities of nature. The belief in magic, to them, is a subjective reality, and I have tried to realistically convey that to the reader.

AUTHOR BIO

The author is a physician certified in internal medicine and nephrology.  He is the founder of WORTH (World Organization of Renal Therapies), a non-profit organization that places dialysis units in the third world and is dedicated to treating the poor, and in so doing he has  spent extensive amounts of time in sub-Saharan Africa. I am well versed in medicine and the cultures of sub-Saharan Africa both qualities of which give validity to the work I would like to submit.  I have published widely in the scientific literature and have written another novel (Source of Shade) which was accepted and published in 2006.   I have diversified interests that I think help in my creativity.  These include karate (I have a second degree black belt), a propensity for pencil sketch portraiture, sculpting, sailing and in line skating.

Janis Michaels is training to be a cardiologist. Brilliant, beautiful and ambitious she is on her way to a stellar career. However, unknown to her, the destiny she envisions is not at all secure at this point. Her world is about to be entered by something ancient; an unparalleled predator so skilled that it has given rise to legends that go back for centuries. The creature is intelligent, with vast experience and talents that make it nearly invulnerable. Janis is young, modern, scientific and evidence based in her approach to problem solving. This is a great advantage in the care of her patients; but it may make her too slow in accepting the threat coming toward her. She will need to think and adapt in ways few have ever had to. Legend and science will clash in a dance of death as each encounters the other and reacts to survive.

Wayne Trebbin is a physician who practices nephrology on the North Shore of Boston in Massachusetts. He is also the founder and president on The World Organization of Renal Therapies (WORTH), a non-profit charitable organization that builds self-sustaining dialysis units for the poor in the developing world. Besides Primeval Origins he is the author of the medical thriller Bruja, where he draws upon his medical experiences in Africa. Other works will be coming out in the future. He has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and enjoys sailing, karate and pencil sketching.

Two great novels which ideally lend themselves to the medical thriller category for movie material, which are not too common right now where movie preferences go…so high time for a change.   More novels planned and being worked on as I speak.

ENJOY…..

GIANT KILLER CVR.pdf_page_1

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Paperback – February 8, 2013
by Carl Vennitti (Author)

Paperback
$14.84
1 New from $14.84

“The Giant Killer” is a long journey to achieving justice, at the expense of many years of frustration and a toll on Carl’s family business and his extended family, against a gigantic corporation. We walk the local grocery store aisles, tossing brand-name items into our carts without much thought given to where the goods came from or who made them. Blissfully unaware that corporate behemoths control them and the world’s smaller food manufacturers who they play like puppets. These puppet masters rely on deceptive advertising, antitrust-like practices and bullying, all of which have helped them become the purveyors of the most recognized and well-loved brands in America. These behemoths have been pulling our strings for decades, rarely allowing entrepreneurs to get their goods into the grocery stores where Americans spend a high percentage of their paychecks.

Welcome!

The story of a family; their courage, faith, and determination, that even after having their American Dream crushed by the vast resources of the world’s largest food company, did something that no one before them had been able to do.

Is the Occupy Wall Street movement on the right track?

The people in the Movement are angry with the greed, deceit, corruption and cover-up tactics of the power brokers.  This book also exposes one of our own; a highly regarded person that left public service to go to the world’s largest food company.  How much more money can Nestlé’s make from this?

ABOUT “THE GIANT KILLER”

In July 2003 V&V Enterprises, Inc. retained Michael S. Culver, Esq. as the agent of record to investigate the potential of a creating a trademark for a newly formed business entity to carry out production, marketing, sales, and, ultimately, the trade marking of pocket sandwiches. A legal opinion provided by Attorney Culver indicated that the prospect of an Application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (hereafter “USPTO”) would be a relatively simple procedure.

Pocket Foods Corporation was formed as a MBE, and Attorney Culver, Esq., was retained as trademark counsel for V&V Enterprises, Inc. and Pocket Foods Corporation. On May 4, 2004, an Application was submitted to USPTO with a date of first use in commerce of May 3, 2004.

On behalf of its client, Nestle Prepared Foods, Thomson CompuTrade discovered the new filing made by Pocket Foods Corp., with the USPTO, and alerted its’ client, Nestle.

In house counsel for Nestle issued a Cease and Desist letter to V&V’s and Pocket Foods Corp.’s trademark counsel in June 2004, effectively thwarting the planned IPO by the small company.  In December 2004, Nestle retained Holland and Hart, in Denver, Co., to file a suit in federal court on multiple charges of trademark infringement. In October 2005, Nestle engaged Kilpatrick-Stockton in Atlanta, Ga. to file Opposition against the trademark PF Pocket Foods Corporation (and design), Serial # 76590414.

Pocket Foods Corporation and V&V Enterprises, Inc., were successful in the findings of fact and conclusions of law contained in the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Opinion and Judgment against Nestle SA (as seen in the ‘Opinion’), the court categorized Hot Pockets Stuffed Sandwiches to be encompassed by the victor’s trademark. This particular trademark, registered under the now defunct category of Pocket Sandwiches, will be free of infringement liability, and is likely the last trademark to ever hold this classification.

Following lengthy and complex litigation, on March 10, 2011, the USPTO dismissed all Nestle Opposition to the trademark owned by V&V Enterprises, Inc., and Pocket Foods Corporation. On May 25, 2011, the ultimate victory against one of the world’s biggest bullies was posted by the USPTO: Opposition: DISMISSED

Of significant importance is the fact that the USPTO will never again issue any trademarks under the classification of “pocket sandwiches.” In other words, the trademark held, owned and controlled by Pocket Foods Corporation is likely the last one that will ever be issued by the USPTO.

The factual documentation of corruption and collusion weave a stunning tale. The author of this book is Carl Vennitti and after taking 128 businesses to court over the word “pocket,” Mr. Vennitti is the only one to go the distance and deal a severe blow to the world’s largest food company and trademark bully. The book has been written to include audio enhancement, typical of a feature film soundtrack. With the demise of the bookstore (such as Borders, Walden Books, and so forth) this adaptation would pioneer new and exciting realms for the eReader market.

CRITIQUE from a fan

Dear Carl, 🙂

Wow  Thank you!  This is a can’t stop reading type thing – maybe because I know you, or maybe because I witnessed some of it, or maybe because it’s just that damned good, or maybe because I got to the “Man I’ll Never Be” and the tears started – haven’t heard that in years and have some things going on in my life that are beyond hell, and it makes me remember better days. Whatever it is, it’s good and I want the autographed hard copy when it’s published J

Things become complicated when one of Adanna’s assignments hits close to home.  Deso Alomar, a hired assassin for a secret terrorist organization only known as “La Peste Negra”, or the “black death” has arrived in the states for unknown reasons.  Deso and Adanna have prior history because he was responsible for a bombing that took place 15 years ago in Caracas, Venezuela, which killed her life partner and wife of five years, Elena.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Scott Fields was born and reared in La Rue, a small village nestled in the farmlands of mid-Ohio. There he learned to appreciate small town life and country living. After graduating from Ohio University in 1970 with a degree in English Literature, he entered the field of retail management and for the next 30 years managed many stores in the Detroit, Michigan area. In 1996 Scott acted on his lifelong dream of being a writer by writing his first short stories. Within two years, he had four published and then began work on All Those Years Ago. Scott and his wife, Deb, now live in Mansfield, Ohio. Their children, Sara, Angela, Michael, and Matt are still living in the Detroit area. Scott has always considered writing to be his hobby. Over the years, he has written numerous great novels before he came one of our clients, and many thereafter followed, plus a volume and compilation of short stories, and nine screenplays, and has nearly a dozen more projects either started or in outline form.  He often laments that “there’s so much to write, and so little time to do it in.”

A Candid Interview with the Author:

When did you first decide you wanted to write? I was born with the nagging obsession to write. It literally haunted me for most of my life until I sat down at about the age of 50 and started writing. I’ve been doing it ever since.

Did you get nervous the first time you put your work out there? I don’t think anybody truly knows if he or she is good enough. I kept trying until finally I was told that one of my novels was going to be published. Hopefully, my wife will never see this because I can safely say it was the greatest moment of my life, even better then the day I got married.

What is your favorite genre to write? I have written 12 different novels from many different genres. I cannot control what kind of story hits me. I always have 5 or 6 ideas cluttering up my brain.

Do you have a favorite author? I am a big fan of Jack London and Steinbeck.

Is there something you want to write about, that you haven’t yet? I recently finished writing a book called Just Believe. It is not a religious book rather an entertaining book with inspiration to the reader. I hope to write another such book that people will feel better about themselves when they have finished reading it.

Spaghetti or Lasagna and why? Spaghetti, because it’s sloppy.

Anything you would like to say to the aspiring authors reading this blog? I went to college to learn how to write and learned from experience that nobody can teach you to write. If you have the desire to tell a story, you simply need to practice everyday by writing short stories, novels, screenplay or whatever you like.

”SUMMER HARVEST” AND  SEQUEL “WARM WINDS OF AUTUMN”

summer-harvestwarm-winds-of-autumn

Is the tender story of Frank Watson, a retired farmer who lived in a small town nestled in the cornfields of rural America. He spent his life farming the land that had been in the family for over a hundred years and reared two children with Ida, his wife for over forty years. It has been two years since the death of his wife, and Frank Watson still struggles with the loss. Every morning, he meets with his friends at the local diner to talk and to exchange gossip, but inevitably must return to his farm that remains undisturbed since his wife’s death. As Frank gazes from the window at the backyard, he winces at what he sees, as though seeing the neglect for the very first time since his wife left him. Trash littered the backyard, and weeds grew where once there were none. A gust of wind scatters the thin strands of hair on his head, and a discarded newspaper comes to life, its pages spreading across the yard like ghosts in the wind….” The bedroom where Ida had died had been locked and bolted. Until now, Frank had been unable to face that evil place that had taken the only woman he had ever loved. As he opens the door sending a cloud of dust swirling across the floor, Frank walks across the rank smelling room and sit himself down on Ida’s side of the bed. The bed groans in protest. He pulls back the comforter and with one hand strokes the cool sheets where she had last rested. He had wanted to do this for so long. He had often dreamed of caressing that special spot. His hand seemed to drink in the coolness of the sheets. He gently slips both hands under the down-filled treasure where her head had once rested, and pulls it close and lowers his face and inhales deeply, filling his lungs with the soft fragrance that still lingered in the air. Then Pepper Ledley walks into Frank’s life. She was the new waitress in town nearly half his age and offers Frank something he had never before considered, a new beginning, and finds he is still struggling with his new feelings for this lovely young woman, and the memory of his beloved wife. He also faces the biggest crisis of his life. A large foreign corporation needs five hundred acres of land to build a factory and Frank alienates himself from the rest of the town when he, steadfastly, refuses to sell. Unlike the other members of the community, Frank is certain there will be problems if they are allowed to build. ‘Warm Winds of Autumn’  is a story that looks into the very heart of small town life. It is laced with humor and filled with warm sentiment of enduring love. Examine a one man’s triumphs and his losses and allows us to share with you the simple yet meaningful life in the heartland of rural America. Available at Amazon.com

If you read Fifty Shades of Grey, you’ll like Summer Heat!

When she was 17, there wasn’t a man alive she would let get near her, and when she was 18, there wasn’t a man she would keep away.

She stood five feet seven inches tall, weighed one hundred twenty pounds, her green eyes sparkled like brilliant cut emeralds, her inviting full lips always ruby red and moist.  Women universally hated her, men continued to hold doors for her long after she passed by – just to watch her walk away. To imply that Jessie exuded sex would be an understatement, akin to inferring that water was wet.    Ninety-nine point nine percent of the men in Steam Corners wanted her, but she only wanted one man, Spencer Deacon. He was everything that she was not, even-tempered, amicable, well respected and kind. The one thing that Spencer didn’t want was Jessie, and his firm and undeniable rejections infuriated her.

What followed was a series of sordid events involving murder, deceit, betrayal and the conviction of an innocent man.

It was the second year of a drought, and it had forced Frank Harlan to find work in another county. When he did, he left behind his wife, Jessie who found a job as a waitress in a local bar. Just about every man in town wanted Jessie, and, with Frank away, there were those who had their wishes come true. One of her admirers was her twenty-year-old stepson, Porter Harlan. More than once, Porter had tried to win her favor but was rejected every time. When a tornado strike the little to

When a tornado strikes the little to of Steam Corners and tears the roof from Jessie’s barn, she hires Spencer Deacon, a twenty-two-year old black man, to replace it. As time goes by her lust for Spencer grows with every torridly hot day until one night when Spencer arrives home from a date with a beautiful young black girl by the name of Skeeter, Jessie is consumed by jealousy and tries once again to tempt and lure Spencer into bed. When he refuses, she becomes enraged with anger.  A series of dramatic incidents ensues, and when Porter, Jessie’s son in law, comes home heavily intoxicated one night, makes an attempt to rape Jessie… A series of dramatic incidents follow from that point onward which necessitates the legal intervention of a court trial which lasts less than a week. Find out who was wrongly convicted and what happens at the culmination of this hot story. Great writing by Scott Fields a wonderful and prolific author with a style all his own. This book offers a compelling read, great suspense and very appealing appropriate adult content within the context of the plot line, and is never gratuitously overdone and makes for great reading for all ages 18 years and upwards.

Tony Franko and his brother, Odell are two young black men living on the south side of Detroit. When a robbery attempt goes bad, Odell is shot and dies in Tony’s arms. Tony goes to prison for the crime and soon befriends a mob boss. At the same time, he upsets a rival mob boss and his life is now endangered. His friend breaks him out of prison, supplies him with priest garb and drops him off in a small farming village. He sees a sign attached to the local Catholic Church that refers to raising money to support Chapel Hill. With that in mind, he approaches the local priest, Father Edward McKinley, and tells him that he was sent by the bishop to help raise money for Chapel Hill. McKinley reluctantly takes him in, but vows to verify his story with the bishop.
With his outgoing personality, Tony soon wins the approval if not the friendship of most everyone in town including, to a certain extent, that of Father McKinley. Even Tony himself is falling in love with small town life until one day when he runs into Frank Bower, the town bully.
For some reason, Frank dislikes the Amish people, and when Tony stumbles across one of Frank’s thugs beating an Amish man, he jumps in and stops the fight. Frank is livid and vows to get Tony. To further torment the Amish, Frank dams the creek that flows through his property and past the Amish farmers who live below. One day, Tony is walking downtown and comes across an automobile accident. A young boy is hurt and lying in the street. Tony picks him up and runs across town to the doctor’s office. As the doctor and nurse frantically work on the boy, Tony stays by his side. When the boy finally passes away and the medical staff walks away, Tony is heartbroken. It was if he was reliving the death of his brother. In a last desperate attempt at saving this boy, Tony for the first time in his life utters a prayer asking God to spare this young life. Almost immediately, the boy’s heartbeat returns.
This is a life-changing event in Tony’s life. He now not only believes in God, he wants to follow in Jesus’ footsteps by helping others. To this end his first triumph is to reunite a mother and son who had been estranged for years. From there, he organizes and opens a soup kitchen to feed the poor.Fortunately for Tony, the little boy he saved just happened to be the grandson of Frank Bower.
Many challenging altercations and injustices rear their ugly heads and ensue as the story unfolds. Read more about the amazing developments  which manifest themselves in the form of compassionate neighborly deeds contributed by some of the most unlikely of characters, and proving that with acts of selflessness and goodwill towards those less well off, and those unfortunate ones who are discriminated against simply on account of their beliefs and associated and perhaps unconventional lifestyles, can procure a profound effect on the most unbending of personalities.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to Chapel Hill.

In the spring of 1948, Robert Daniels and John West were paroled from the Mansfield Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. Within a few months after returning to society, they began a life of crime that included robbery of gas stations and small bars and restaurants. On July 10, 1948, they entered a small bar on the south side of Columbus with the intentions of robbing the cash register. When they pulled their guns, the owner, Earl Ambrose, went for his gun, and John West shot him in the head. On July 21st, they decided to return to Mansfield to “get even” with an abusive guard named Red Harris. They didn’t know his home address, so they went to the home of John Niebel, who also worked at the reformatory, to get the information. To afford them time to “deal” with Harris, they needed to tie up Mr. Niebel, his wife and twenty-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any rope. They searched the entire house but couldn’t find any. They drove them 6 miles into the country, led them into a cornfield, and Robert Daniels shot all three of them in the head. Two days later, they tried unsuccessfully to steal a car. John West shot the owner, Jim Smith, in the head. Hours later, they killed Orville Taylor and took the truck that he was driving. The next morning, they were stopped by a roadblock near Van Wert, Ohio. A gun battle broke out, and John West was killed. Daniels was captured and taken back to Mansfield where in September of that year, he stood trial for the first-degree murders of the Niebel family. Five days later, he was found guilty and was executed in the electric chair on January 3, 1949. The Mansfield Murders’ details the life of a Christian family as well as the evil lives of two killers and graphically reveals what happens when the two worlds come together. It is an accurate representation of the events that occurred during the summer of 1948.

MANSFIELD, OHIO – The Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society hosted a book signing this Labor Day weekend for Outer Banks Publishing Group author Scott Fields, author of The Mansfield Killings at the historic and haunted Ohio State Reformatory.  Scott said he sold approximately 60 copies of his best selling novel, The Mansfield Killings, based on true events about two ex-cons who went on a 2-week killing spree in the summer of 1948.
The spree attracted national headlines back then ending in a dramatic shootout with police on Route 224 where one ex-con was killed and the other captured.Scott meticulously researched the event obtaining copies of original documents and photos and then turned the dark chain of events into a novel.
“I just had to write this book. It took me only four months to finish it,” he said earlier.
The killing spree is part of Mansfield, Ohio’s dark lore, where the state erected an historical highway marker on Route 224 where the killers were confronted and stopped. It’s like the town fathers wanted future generations to remember the horror of that summer more than 60 years ago.
The book signing was held at the Ohio State Reformatory, reputed to be haunted by former prisoners and the location of the filming of the 1994 The Shawshank Redemption, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.
Scott’s book signing was part of the  20-year-reunion party of The Shawshank Redemption where fans were treated to a Hollywood tour of the rooms and areas where the movie was filmed.

Geezers Bench Scott Fields

 May 6, 2014
It has been a tradition that has existed for years. Four old men meet everyday at a park bench in front of Lingo’s Dry Good Store. They discuss and ultimately resolve all of the world’s problems and then return home to face their own.The Geezer Bench is lighthearted talk and has drama that will bring tears to your eyes. It depicts life as it was years ago in a small town, and is life as we know yet today.
It was the first day of spring, and, as every first day of spring, Murphy Flemming grabbed his coat to head downtown. The tradition had been set some ten years before that everyday there were four old men sitting for an hour on what became known as the geezer benches. Besides Murphy, there was Walter who just happened to hate his resident ex-son-in-law, Sully, who just happened to be the third member. The fourth and newly appointed member was Riley Hoagland. Riley was an overweight, sixty-five year old virgin, who had never been on a date and was still living with his mother. After an hour of lighthearted talk, they would return to their private world of happiness and sometimes sorrow. The Geezer Bench is full of laughter and sorrow. It is about life as we knew it years ago and life as we know it today.

Their twenty-five years of marriage was coming to an end. The nightmare peaked on the day that he loaded his belongings and drove away. He turned in time to see his three kids watching out the bedroom window and whispering,” Good bye, Daddy.” For the last twenty years, Harold’s best friend had shown up at 7 o’clock every Friday night to play checkers. This Friday night, Harold waited patiently by the door. It was almost 7:30. It is the day before Christmas, and as I stood before the markers of where my mother, father, grandparents, uncles and aunts lie in eternal peace, I look back on a life of happiness, grief and regrets, and yet a childhood of love and affection. Already snow was collecting on the stones hiding the lives and memories of two loved and loving people. “Merry Christmas,” I uttered softly, turned and walked away. This is a collection of stories that will bring tears and some will bring laughter. It is  a collection of real life stories.

He went back to heavy drinking and soon Rachel and Dale were arguing almost non-stop.
Dale had had enough and went back to his drifting, but this time instead of taking odd jobs, he took people’s lives. Little did he know that his first victim would seal his fate. When Erv Meyers, a retired detective and his brother, Kramer learned about the rape and murder of their sister, they became as obsessed as the killer to find Marlowe and bring him to justice. What ensued was a multi-state killing spree and one of the most extensive manhunts in criminal history. The story is based on actual events.
