ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JOHN L D BARNETT

JOHN L. D. BARNETT had some varied and illustrious, and not least exciting career choices, before he retired in 2002 at the age of 55 after working 25 years as a heavy haulage Tanker Driver Class 1, in the Petroleum industry. After leaving his Secondary Modern School at the end of 1961,  he worked in the steel industry in Sheffield South Yorkshire England, and attended higher education classes at the Sheffield Granville Collage, where he was awarded the City and Guilds higher education certificate. At the age of 17.

The author enlisted in the British Army, serving with 24th Missile Regiment Royal Artillery for 2 years before transferring to the Royal Military Police for a further 7 years, serving on Front line action stations in BAOR, Middle East, and the Far East.

After retiring from the Royal Military Police at the end of 1970, the Author secured a job working as the Chief Security Officer for HRH Sheik Isa Bin Salmon Ruler of Bahrain and its Independent States, eventually returning home to England where I found employment as a 2nd Engineer with the deep sea fishing fleet, sailing out of the port of Grimsby. It was there that he met and married his beautiful wife June, and  had two children together, both of whom are now married with their own children, and they have now been very happily married for 38 years.

After 3 years sailing with the fleet all through the Icelandic Cod Wars, John settled down ashore and  took his class 1 Heavy Goods Licence, becoming a Petroleum Tanker Driver for Burmah Castrol, and then Q8 Petroleum until his retirement. John’s hobbies included canoeing, waterskiing, Judo, and motorcycling, but due to four major operations which left the author with severed nerve endings, he has now taken up writing and  illustrating books with cartoons, and have to date completed three biographies, entitled “NO PAIN NO GAIN!”, “THE SEA IS MY GRAVE”, and “YORKSHIRE REBEL Part I & REDCAP FOREVER Part II” (A two part autobiography).

Book Description –  “NO PAIN, NO GAIN”  Available at Amazon.com

JOHN BARNETT NO PAIN NO GAIN

This is a true to life story, beginning with the author’s vivid childhood memories of the 1950s, all through his Military Service and highlights the hardships suffered at sea, during the Cod War trawling days of 1973, when fishing out of the port of Grimsby was not undertaken lightly. It describes how, after leaving the fishing industry, he obtained his HGV class 1 licence and his lorry driving experiences, which were both colourful and humorous. It continues to highlight his ongoing experiences until his retirement at the present day, which gives substance to the title of the book; “NO PAIN, NO GAIN!”

Book Description – “THE SEA IS MY GRAVE”  –  As articulated by John L. D. Barnett

JOHN L D BARNETT_The Sea if my grave book cover

Available in Kindle and Paperback at Amazon.com

“The Sea is my Grave” is a self published  non-fiction rendition and a wonderful insight into the professional life and personal story of our Author’s own father, that of Bill Barnett; a decorated member of the British Royal Navy Submarine Service.  I took the liberty to show it on our Author’s page anyway, as it is a wonderful work that deserves to be promoted.

The work gives the reader a bird’s eye view of what our British Naval serving men and officers had to tolerate, particularly those who served under those claustrophobic conditions on Submarines, whilst in pursuance of the enemy might at sea. It puts the reader very eloquently into the middle of John’s father’s life.  The work will captivate any history-searching reader, covering the 60 years of Bill Barnett’s professional and domestic life. It displays nearly 100 authentic photos, letters and military writings.  The work is a historical event, describing much of the action which transpired during World War II, as well as covers details of Bill’s personal life trying to raise a family at intervals; whilst away serving in the British Navy, and the events and adventures that transpired fighting for King and Country and Great Britain’s cause in their collective the fight for freedom.    Not only for the British peoples, but on behalf of all our Western allies, as the conflict and quest for world domination by our German and Japanese oppressors gradually and insidiously encroached upon all of European nations, Russia and then spreading to the USA.  The American War Effort Aid came none too soon, as WWII escalated,  and the Japanese surprise bombed Pearl Harbour – which proved a little bit too close for comfort to our American allies.   The title of the book “The Sea is My Grave” became in a sense Bill Barnett Sr.’s nemesis, as the sea claimed his life providing his final resting place.    His ashes were ceremoniously scattered when given a submarine funeral.

John’s story about his Father is intriguing, frank and honest, and is an eye-opener about Bill Barnett Sr.’s life, as well as some insight into the lives of and the rest of the so many heroic serving men, who likewise became victims of the sea, and lost their lives to it.  We are hoping that this book may offer food for thought for all those who may read it, and poignantly show that so many gave their lives during the passing of our two major global conflicts of WWI and WWII,  but are not forgotten.  So that future generations might live their lives in peace and freedom void of the presence of an occupying oppressor; thanks to their predecessors who fought and sacrificed their lives on behalf of future generations.  Clearly the Author did his extensive research,  and brought to life much historic detail of Bill Barnett Sr.’s  era, of which much secret detail will have been kept under wraps in the historical Naval archives away from public viewing, until now.  However, now almost 80 decades on, much today about WWI and WWII has been brought to light already by the unearthing of old and forgotten records of the many factual accounts and horrendous atrocities that were committed by the enemy during that grave period in our human history.

Today, we are living in an age of ‘enlightenment’ and the ‘public awareness and total accessibility to information’.   Our present day generations born in the 50’s, 60’s and onward to 2015  are becoming more aware about our political and military history as well as the more recent conflicts around  the globe that are brought to our attention daily via the Internet.  We are all aware of the numerous Military, Navel and Air force campaigns that have been deployed and made history in years past, and the various conflicts experienced with other cultures that are still today being suffered and fought on both sides.  Not only has the public been made aware and are given insight to yesteryear’s two major World Wars, but hundreds of minor and and  lesser commonly known political conflicts which yielded millions more casualties than our 2 major World wars combined, that until not so long ago were public knowledge have been brought to our attention through our Television news reels, and where the Internet became a very public component in bringing awareness regarding the various conflicts existing today, and which are negatively affecting all nations of the globe.  Our current involvement with  Middle Eastern conflicts  are continuing to be in the news daily; and which are on the up rise in this, our 21st Century – when we ought to have learned something from history and know better that indeed massive losses of human fatalities, and the continual destruction of infrastructure  robbing ordinary citizens of a normality of lifestyle, is not acceptable and must not be tolerated in any passing and future generations’ human life span.  Life being such a precious gift instead, must be nurtured and secured under sacred wraps.  Making our peace with our neighbor, irrespective of cultural or nationalistic traditions and differences which must be respected and reciprocated, is of the utmost priority and the only solution to changing our world, and the preservation of the entire human race forever.

Undoubtedly, “The Sea is my Grave” offers a harsh ‘reality lesson‘ in military history and gives all discerning readers, both young and old, some honest and factual insight of what life was like for these officers serving the war effort on a submarine.  It gives a full picture of how Naval submarine serving personnel coped on a daily basis, with the hardships that were associated with serving on a WWII Submarine.  “The Sea is My Grave” is the first of 2 other books soon to be released by the Author, titled “A Hero to Die For”; “Dive Silent, Dive Deep” and “Yorkshire Rebel” – The Boy Part I, and “Redcap Forever” – The Man, Part II, a two-part rendition of the Author’s own fascinating life in service.   In which he richly regales and reminisces about his life as a typical English youth born, bred and educated, whilst growing up in Yorkshire, England, during the 1950’s., who as a mature man became an officer of the most feared division fo the British Army (as they were looked upon by our regular serving men and women in the British Army), that of the British Military Police known as, the Redcap Division.

Annette Creswell is one of my favorite authors. She is beautiful and warm, and graceful and boasts a wonderful sense of humor. A sure sign of a high intellect. Annette writes from what she knows. Her latest novel entitled The Dark Before the Dawn is a most evocative romantic old world tale with a dark side. The drama of the content is what makes for compelling reading. So long you start at page 1, and curb the irresistible urge to take a peek at the last page just to see how it ends, you will be pleasantly surprised and captivated at at every high and low turn this story takes you into…a world of turbulent flavors and unforgettable ‘Wuthering Heights’ moments.

Annette was born at Watson’s Bay a harbourside suburb in Sydney’s east where she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea primary school. She was awarded prizes for English and at the age of twelve had a short story published.

Her secondary school education was at Our Lady of Mercy College, Rose Bay and Holy Cross College, Woollahra. where she obtained the Leaving Certificate. She completed a secretarial course and was employed as a legal secretary for a solo practitioner in Kings Cross for five years after which she married and with her husband relocated to Brisbane, Queensland where she worked for a large law firm until the birth of her first son.

The intervening years were spent as a stay at home mother caring for her husband and two sons. When her children were teenagers she secured a receptionist position at a legal firm.

Now retired and a lady of leisure, Annette has more time to devote to her writing. She has written six books two of which have been published.

Annette’s disposition is that of the ‘old school’ where her personal values are concerned in how you approach life’s daily dealings, and not what we can get out of life for ourselves but what you can do for others. She is a prolific reader and enjoys novels set around the periods of the two world wars. She is also interested in the nursing profession and has offered her services as a voluntary worker in one of Sydney’s leading hospitals.

We are going to challenge Annette, to write us a thrilling Law series, as we know she is very capable in coming up with something unique. But that is another story.

She loves to travel and enjoys the diversity of cultures, has visited Europe, the United States and South-East Asia and hopes to be able to enjoy more of travel to exotic destinations in the future. Her other interests include writing, dining out, movie watching, walking and swimming.

Annette has two sons, Mark and Brett, and has two grandsons, Jaime and Flynn, and a sister, Maree. She lives with her partner Stephen at Neutral Bay, a harbourside suburb on Sydney’s prestigious north shore, and is one of Sydney’s most picturesque harbour side locations.

Annette’s novel ‘The Dark Before the Dawn; is available from all good major book store chains in Sydney, and is also available on the Asian market further afield, and the rest of the world via Amazon.com and other book promotions sites such as Kobo, Smashwords, Books.google and many more…

We feel that Annette’s works also have a strong film potential appeal and will be considered for Movie projects in the not so distant near future.

Minette, is a beautiful lady, both inside and on the outside. She is also a most accomplished individual, whose professional expertise in child psychology, and her involvement in so many other diverse industries and projects she has, and still is involved with. Her contributions within the Theatrical and Entertainment arena has also proved accomplished and far -reaching, and above all manifests a very thorough result achieved by her in simply how she applies herself to the task in hand. In other words she is a ‘perfectionist’.

In a word, Minette, is making her impact upon various social strata’ that makes her stand out as someone who has achieved milestones professionally, and her innate talent for the dramatic, i.e. in planning and coordinating theater plays. Last but not least, Minette is the proud recipient of a Doctorate degree in Literature.

A recent project and Theater production entitled “The Sultana”,

Thomas H. Banks via Library of Congress

The overloaded steamboat Sultana is seen at Helena, Arkansas, on the Mississippi River on April 26, 1865. The next day the steamer’s boilers exploded, killing upwards of 1,800 people. About 500 people survived. The forgotten event of the ‘Sultana and the tragic lives that were lost can be aligned with another major ‘nautical’ fatal tragedy “The sinking of the Titanic”, an Ocean liner of immense proportions which was perceived as ‘Unsinkable”.

An East Texas playwright and historians around the South are hoping a new community theater musical will, at long last, bring attention to the worst maritime disaster in American history.

Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk will premier Minette Bryant’s musical “Sultana” on Feb 15. It is the first play written about the 1865 explosion of the steamboat of the same name. More people were killed aboard the Sultana than in the sinking of the Titanic.

“Everything about this story is fascinating,” Bryant said. “The fact is that it isn’t told; it isn’t known; it isn’t widely talked about and portrayed in any way. It’s time. Something more needs to be done. If all I can do is this little area, this will be great,” Bryant said.

The story of the Sultana is filled with the trappings of a Oscar-winning Hollywood blockbuster — senseless tragedy facing men returning home from war, greed, hope, sorrow, perseverance, and a miscarriage of justice. Yet far fewer people know about the Sultana than the Titanic, the subject of the 1997 three-hour epic love story by James Cameron.

“What we need for people to learn about the Sultana is something like they did with the Titanic. It sounds like she’s done it with this musical. People don’t know about the Sultana at all,” said Rosalind O’Neal with the Sultana Disaster Museum in Marion, Arkansas.

“I understand that at the time people were in news overload. There was so much going on. They were so saturated in tragedy. What’s our excuse now? Where’s the box office blockbuster with a sweeping John Williams score for this tragedy? We are the first one to bring this to the stage,” Bryant said.

Bryant is surprised when she meets anyone who has heard of the Sultana, let alone anyone who has studied it’s plight at great length. That subject matter is typically left to descendants of survivors and a niche group of historians who specialize in the western theater of the Civil War.

We are very partial to the Supernatural, and who isnt?  It is the best form of escapism that has the ability to hoist us up and release us from our ‘earthly shackles, if only momentarily.   Right?   We believe this work would deliver well in the film industry.  I don’t want to give away too much of this treasure,  until we have caught the attention of some of our beloved colleagues in the film sectors, and so a simple log-line may need to suffice for now to give you a clue.  The plot is exciting, full of suspense, and loaded with humanitarianism and philanthropic courage where Providence is on their side, and ultimately lets the ‘good guys’ win, in their getting even with greedy corporates for once.

Two of Patrick latest Screenplays looking for a home with a keen Film Studio are:

Adaptation to the  Award Winning Novel of the same title by Diane Frank (See Diane’s Author Page on this site)

Again, more elements of the supernatural in the mix… Should be a wonderful eye catching materialization of the exotic on the silver screen, where West meets with Eastern culture, and philosophy.  However, whether Western or Eastern customs, love knows no bounds where the rapturous highs and ecstasies, as well as the painful lows experienced and intertwined within any romantic bond between a man and a woman, is destined to deliver the same severity of happiness or pangs of distress in all cultures, when events turn an unexpected corner.

Logline:

Recovering from the loss of her first true love, a young geisha in 1850s Kyoto meets a youthful Buddhist monk who has never known a woman’s touch. Tenuous and then passionate lovemaking becomes their gateway to a deeply spiritual union. Their love affair cut short by an earthquake, the two inseparable lovers return in the present day and find each other once again.

ABOUT THE Author  A.J. (Anthony J.) Kohler

ant-kohler-author-page-photo

The talented Author’s  career has included insurance sales, collections and law, which he was engaged in, in Denver for about ten years before his retirement.   Anthony told us that he was never one to favor the Colorado harsh  winters, and skiing always seemed like nothing more than a waste of time and money. This is heresy in Colorado, of course, so when he retired, the Author headed south for a warmer climate. He now lives in the outskirts of Tucson, in the heart of the Sonoran desert, and he assured us that he can now honestly say that is where he has lost his heart…to the place where the saguaro grows.  He is keenly growing many diverse kinds of cacti  in his beloved  garden, and here in the desert, he also learned that gardening can be akin to a blood sport.

His educational degrees are all from the University of Colorado, and he was there during the time frame of Repeat.  Anthony writes from experience and what he knows, and this  is  reflected in the authenticity of his work, and there is so much that he could have included which could have turned Repeat into a much more voluminous work, such as the Light shows, concerts, winter storms and chinook winds, the trees leafing out late in the Spring semester, and there are myriad things that could have been included to make the setting even more real, but doing so while it would have been true to memory, Kohler maintains, would have resulted in the setting taking over the story.

Currently Anthony  lives on the outskirts of Tucson with a partner of the opposite sex and two long-coat Akitas, also of opposite…Lol!

We, as Anthony’s Agents,  beg to differ where he  maintains that these additional elements omitted from the story, would have resulted in the setting taking over the story.  Instead, we hope with keen fan eyes, that he will come back with another submission,  and another thrilling work to entice our greedy “reading buds”,  with nothing precious omitted of the locale and the full tapestry against which he sets his stories.

REVIEWS

What a beautiful love story. So much there, about second chances, redemption, of being allowed to do it all over again — the right way. The end, so sad, so perfect, —- so beautiful. That end clings to my heart———- Wren Hartwood, short story author This book will touch your heart, bring a few tears and shouts of joy. Characters are well developed and they come alive as you fall in love with them. It left me wishing that I could have a Repeat. —- Joy Redmond, author of Stolen Lives, Give Me Wings and Finding Will Hennie As I read this book, it occurred to me that like a lot of people, I have wanted to re-live some things in my life but in a different way. There were things I would have changed, different roads I would have taken. Imagine for a moment, going back and doing it over, knowing what you know now. Living and loving the way it could have been. I could not put the book down. — Frank Drinkwine, Vietnam veteran It is a love story, it is a family story all wrapped around a very realistic Nam story. I enjoyed it immensely and laughed and even came close to crying a few times. It has a perfect ending. —- Joe Skarda, Vietnam veteran

ABOUT THE BOOK – “THE FORK IN THE ROAD”

fork-in-the-road-by-danial-donai

OVERVIEW

This book does not tell you which road to take; that’s for you to decide. This book is all about the one step back that everyone should take before they choose their path. I truly hope Fork in the Road will help you and the young adults who are headed into the real world to achieve all the great joys life has to offer. If this small book helps just one-person head in the right direction, whether it be in happiness, wealth, success, or improving life in some way, then writing this has all been worth it.

Danial’s book “The Fork in the Road” graces as one of the highpoints in his writing career, and takes its place of pride among Danial’s diverse literary repertoire.  The book was written from the heart, and based on his own life’s journey, as he tried to find his own place in the world of movie making and being involved as a stunt actor in various movies in which he was involved during his years spent in Hollywood. Living within what could best be described as,  its ‘tumultuous’ society’; which rather comes somewhat ‘gratis’ in the world of the wider entertainment industry circles and sectors.

This book illustrates some amazing and superb ‘behind the scenes pictures’ showing Dani in many different ‘personas.’  Talk about superbly blending in like a true ‘chameleon’ under cover.

  • It is our heartfelt and genuine opinion that this book ought to be read by all young people from Intermediary School age onwards to hopefully stand them in good stead as they move forward into young adulthood.  We aim to get this book into schools and various other institutions where it can be promoted and distributed and see this great book, written from a personal journey point of view, to serve as a guide and perhaps to usher a pre-emptive warning when young men and women reach their own personal junctions, and they’re finding themselves confronted with difficult and tempting choices. So they may be spurred on to thoughtfully weigh things over, consider carefully the consequences and the cost, and the everlasting effects these choices (good or bad – dumb or wise) when erring on the side of indecision under certain peer pressure; may procure on their future lives.

Danial would like to share with our readers the content of a recent message he sent us about the following experience some time ago in original home country Australia, where he is now living and working full time.

Danial:    Hi Emerantia!

I arose this morning, checked my email and smiled again to see a reply from you lol Emerantia, I was so delighted to know that you have started to read FITR and liked it so far, YAY!

Emerantia:    Hi Dani

The same sentiments are reciprocated here, and yes thank you so much for this amazing report and experience, and I found myself entirely hooked after reading a mere few opening pages. The compulsion to read “The Fork in the Road” to the last page, and driven by my highly infected curiosity taking over I felt I needed to learn more about your journey and the aim that was in your own heart to provide some hope, succour and not least courage to those who found themselves in a dark place.   Once in a while a book like this comes our way, and I guess the experiences you related, these are the very elements that enables to warm the cockles of one’s heart, to know that your amazing book “The Fork in the Road”, was able to procure the desired affect you were after, and in being able to help pull someone from the doldrums of their personal abyss and making that ultimate misguided personal decision to end one’s life.  You managed to help so very poignantly “Rosie”, the first woman who contacted you as you revealed in your excerpt below, and I think if any of us is able to save one life in one’s lifetime is the most gratifying, satisfying and ultimate gift, is huge in its dimensions and implications, and is something we could all be extremely proud of.

Danial:   You know when I wrote that little book the ‘Fork In The Road’ for our young generation. I mailed the first edit to Parliament House in Canberra, attention – the (Honorable Julie Bishop) who was at the time our education minister.  A month or so later I received a contact from Julie, she loved the book and asked if she could have me send a pdf version as she would love to send it to her colleagues in the heads of education departments around Australia. Happily, I did as she asked. A few weeks later I received a phone call whilst driving my car.  I pulled over – a woman voice said “is this Danial Donai” I said yes. She said her name was Rosie and that she called to say “thank you for saving my life.”  She explained that it was the last day of the working week at her position in an education department – Rosie had lost her way, she had fallen into a deep depression and had made up her mind – that at the end of that working day she was going home to take her life.  She opened her email that morning and saw an attachment ‘Fork In The Road.’  Rosie thought it was a spam mail and was about to delete it… when she saw the attachment was from Julie Bishop.  So she opened and read the book.  The book affected her in such a positive way, Rosie did not go down that path that day to shorten her life but instead, she took a new positive outlook and continued on in this world. We both cried together on the phone, and I said to Rosie at the end of our tears, Rosie in that book I mention – if this small book helps just one reader out there, then writing it has all been worth it – and Rosie you are that person.

On page 61 of “The Fork in the Road,” which I think is the Dedication page I have a short mention about “Rosie”.  I started receiving emails from people Julie had sent the book to. I was delighted to hear their positive response, one guy even had a small review published about the book and sent the review to me and thanked me for writing it. I have attached that review below.  Anyway, I had a hundred copies of this first draft printed and passed them out to people of all ages and different walks in life to see their response? I was overwhelmed with all the great response I received on this book, lol (lots of love).

Emerantia: Dani, I think you have created a wonderful hand/guidebook which can be used as an upbuilding source of information for people of all ages, in all walks of life. Thank you so much for sharing this work with us, and using your own life’s experiences so honestly and with all the right motives. You are what I would term as a ‘doer’ and not just a ‘talker’ who not just talks about good intentions, but has made those life changes himself, and then following up these newfound values. Thank you again for sharing.

We hope to see the book with a traditional publisher and which it deserves, and perhaps its powerful contents will find their way into those areas of our societal social structures, and institutions for which you were aiming. We shall do our best to offer our very best efforts in being instrumental to a degree at least, to make this happen.

Bram Stokers’ Dracula

This Film & Novel Were Inspired By Actual Events.  The ride of their lives has taken a turn for the worst.

“This is a story of a desolate land that time had forgotten, a land of myths and legends and a land of hidden subterranean caves, containing secrets of the past. So draconian and vast was this barren landscape that nothing really grew and everything seemed stunted and lost.”

Four inspiring friends and filmmakers (Randy, Chris, Jack & Bianca) are funded for a surfing shoot by (Regent & Boris), two devious Hollywood producers now residing in Australia. The producers have sent the young crew down to film at the Great Australian Bite with a conniving motive in mind.

On the crews” journey through South Australia their vehicle is immobilized. While seeking shelter in an old abandoned church, they are stalked and hunted by an unthinkable killer.

One night of unspeakable terror has left one dead and the three other three crew members running for their lives.

What started out as an exciting trip for another surfing documentary shoot, has turned into one night of unimaginable terror and a fight to survive.

An absolutely stunning and riveting adventure, based partially upon factual events …

OVERVIEW OF “SCARFACE”

The king of the deep has been scarred by those who drew first blood, and his rage has been fuelled for all these years.  Now the time has come to make it right, and the time has come to fight.

A three-month old Great White shark has been hauled upon a Chinese shark culling ship. The young shark witnesses the mutilation of his kin while they are still alive. The terrified shark is thrown back overboard as the Australian coast guard intercepts the ship. Tormented and scarred for life by the men aboard, the infant disappears back into the ocean, only to return as the king of the deep with revenge on his mind.

Twenty years later…

Stan and Reggie are Ozzy shark hunting brothers who live in the coastal town of Byron Bay. The brothers are in search for a twenty-one-foot Great White shark that has been on a killing spree up the east coast of Australia. They are chasing the huge shark, nicknamed ‘Scarface’ by the media, for the cash reward and for another trophy to mount on the wall of their local pub. They need a larger boat to keep up with Scarface, and hook up with Stormy, an Aboriginal man who captains the hired boat. The three set out on a journey, a journey that will change their lives forever.

At the same time, further up the east coast of Queensland, two young couples (Tito & Holly, Nev & Lisa) reunite for a long weekend together at the Whitsunday Islands. They rent two sea-doos and during their trip between the mainland and the Islands, they have a horrific collision at sea. With only one sea-doo barley afloat they are taken out to sea by the current, where they face the perils of mother nature and where they will find out what demons lurk above the water and below.

A sea rescue chopper has been deployed to find the missing castaways. The pilot Matthias and the co-pilot Dan, locate the castaways, but only find tragedy as the horror of a shark attack is imminent. During their rescue attempt from above their chopper is attacked from below and now Matthias and Dan find themselves fighting for their lives along with the castaways.

This is going to be one of those amazing stories about Sharks, and what happens to Sharks when they encounter Man, their enemy one might presume?   However, Sharks have been and still are grossly misunderstood.  After all how would you expect these creatures to react when we enter their domain, their territory?   A must see movie for all Shark lovers!!!

“I for one will be shedding a tear or two on behalf of “Scarface”!

Science Slept Sixteen Centuries is a book for the reader who wants to learn what physics is all about – and for the person who has taken a few physics courses in high school, but wants to learn more about its diverse theories and historical development.

Even if you have taken college-level physics courses, you might not necessarily know the fascinating history of physics development, and the backgrounds of physicists who contributed to that development, such as Kepler, Newton, the Bernoulli family, Planck, Bohr, Einstein, von Neumann and Oppenheimer, to name only a few.

And of course, if you want to learn why world civilization still suffers from a hiatus in the advancement of science in general — and physics in particular – this is the book for you.

In 2006, Allan Karson received enthusiastic feedback for his book idea, and was told that Science Slept Sixteen Centuries is a book that is very much needed. Now, 10 years later, this work is finally ready.

– This book is written for intelligent, inquiring people; it does not talk down to them.
– This book is exciting. Each chapter presents a different historical time period and a different physics discipline. This changing environment presents a continuing challenge. There are no long, non-factual, non-interesting or dull descriptions.
– This book keeps the quantity of math equations to a minimum. Only one equation is presented and explained in detail: Einstein’s fascinating equation that transforms how people, objects and clocks appear to change when they are moving at speeds that approach the speed of light.
– There are no ‘heavy’ descriptions of physics theories; charts are used to provide supporting explanations and description points in charts usually consist of one-liners.
– This book’s sources have been scrupulously read to assure correct and complete details.

Dive in to the mesmerizing world of the history and future of physics with “Science Slept Sixteen Centuries…”

I, and my team salute you Allan Karson for providing us with such a most comprehensive yet uncomplicated version and approach to the book “Science Slept and its ‘Principles’.

These two works are truly a most unorthodox, appealing, easily digestible and welcoming Conceptual and Historical Approach to Physics, as Contrasted to a Mathematical Approach.  Providing keen readers a fresh approach and new way to learning about this most essential  gateway to the ‘basics of science and physics branch of higher level learning, which forms the basis and groundwork to all manner of industries and the day to day running and improving of all areas, sectors and the lives of the society in which we thrive in the modern day.  The application of the Principles supported by the study of Science and Physics is evident all around us  in both the domestic domain as well as all automated commercial industries, and medical sectors.

The following are the comments of Professor Emeritus Joseph Krieger, former Chair of the Physics Department at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, who read most parts of “Science Slept Sixteen Centuries, An Introduction to the Science of Physics” and assisted in correcting and improving key topics:-

“Monumental effort to inform all of us about developments in physics since Galileo.  Particularly enjoyed all of the personal information about scientists….your courage in tackling such a mathematically difficult subject without using more than a few equations makes this interesting and informative reading for the non-specialist.”

July 1839, without the knowledge of the English Government, the ship Tory, stealthily departed Plymouth, determined to reach New Zealand with the utmost speed. The objective, to purchase millions of acres of lands at the lowest possible price and then build the perfect society. The New Zealand Company called the first settlement Britannia, a civilization without the shortcomings and failings of a troubled English culture.

On board the Tory, a young Scottish couple indentured to the New Zealand Company are excited at the prospect of beginning a new life, Britannia is the Utopia they’ve been promised.

This is the story of adversity, the struggle to survive in the hardships of a new colony, and their fight to preserve morality and integrity in the face of greed, deception and injustice. For Andrew and Eleanor Stewart they must first battle the environment – they now live in fear for their lives.

On arriving in New Zealand, colonists and settlers discover it isn’t as advertised, and far from the paradise they were promised. The New Zealand Company show no restraint as surveyors measure, plot and divide, while disregarding mounting claims of illegally purchased lands and fraudulently obtained deeds.

Underestimating the Maori people, the Company test their patience, how much more can Maori withstand before they finally take action and rebel?
Befriended and aided by formidable Maori chiefs, the Stewart’s question
their own beliefs and values as they discover what lengths powerful men will go to satisfy their greed and lust for land. Caught between the loyalty to their employer, and helping Maori, Andrew and Eleanor encounter schemers and murderers, as they challenge the powerful New Zealand Company and the men who govern.

Using violence, and intimidation, one man can destroy it all, and threatens to topple everything – who will survive?

Accurately researched, this is a story of honour and integrity, and highlights

Paul is a very talented author, whose potential to be diverse shown already in the genres he has thus far tackled, and which will entertain us with many hours of fine reading.   We shall be eagerly looking out for more unique and quirky story concepts as time goes by.  We are of the opinion that Paul’s books will fulfill all the film sectors’ criterion for riveting viewing and box office appeal, to the measure enjoyed by the afamed Hollywood award winning film “The Piano”, and I believe it is in the tradition of that film likewise set in historical New Zealand that Paul books “Boundary” and “For Want of a Schilling” in particular, will exude that same visual appeal  and success of their afamed forerunner.

Believing God speaks to him through the archangel Gabriel, and
anointed with powers, Te Ua unites his people through a common
cause. He is determined to drive the imperial oppressors from
Maori land and return New Zealand to the righteous.

In early 1860’s New Zealand, the beautiful region of Taranaki
is engulfed in a brutal land war. Continuing with its unpopular
policy, the New Zealand government, bolstered by British soldiers,
seeks punitive and severe action against rebel Maori who openly
resist the Government’s determined e ort to confi scate their lands.
With regular army forces ill equipped to fi ght in the wilderness, the
specialist highly trained ‘Forest Rangers’ are tasked to pursue rebel
Maori deep into the rugged bush clad hills.

The Rangers newest recruit, Moana (Ira) Rangitira, a veteran of
the Crimean war, shows remarkable and unusual skills, Maori fear
and call him, ‘The ghost who walks’. Ira faces challenges that test
his will to survive, and can he protect what is closest to his heart, or
has everything been destroyed.

‘The Breath of God’ is the first novel in the Moana Rangitira
adventure series.

A magic work for discerning readers and a ‘must’ read, this fine work by Feenstra is also destined to the film sectors!!!
