ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wow!  What an eye-opener, and what a clever and innovative way to present what would otherwise seem a rather dry topic – Cornelius has turned his clever delivery into a funny and entertaining read.  Not least, an informative account to serve as a warning against the pitfalls of the finance industry so many people have lost their life’s savings to.   A MUST READ!

Cornelius has been involved in the finance industry for over 25 years. He has seen all the negative influences that are involved in the finance industry and its affiliates and decided that it was his moral duty to tell all. This is the book that everyone was too afraid to write…. It exposes the wheeling and dealing, the trick, transactions and corruption that occur on a daily basis behind the scenes and closed doors in the finance industry and its affiliates. An industry that is worth tens of billions of dollars per annum and that some major players would do anything to protect – this is the one boat they do not wish to have rocked… As you read on you will be able to identify and understand the legions of vampires and leeches that all feast upon the flesh, getting fat and sucking dry the life juices from the walking blood bank – the client – with their insatiable and never satisfied hunger. This book will give you the opportunity to learn about the finance industry and its affiliates and will empower and enable you to use that knowledge to make informed decisions and protect yourself against any future dishonest dealings.

Another exciting novel soon coming our way from Cornelius is:

 THE CORINTHIANS

Maximiliaan has spent the last two years reflecting, deliberating and ruminating on the existence, status and relationships that women have with males, while consuming copious amounts of beer, wine and whisky, accompanied by many imported French and Dutch cheeses, Persian grapes, Sicilian olives and Arabian water biscuits

It is conclusive that he has certainly not disappointed his legions of fans with this latest offering; it not only combines his unique humor with his creative writing style, but also showcases his academic skills in the fields of research and philosophical understanding of the human condition, highlighting all aspects of the weaker gender.

Observation:  One funny and very cleverly written work and  rendition of the battle between the sexes which  will not leave  readers disappointed.   The Author’s take on the  basic differences that are manifested and shall continue to exist between the human male and  female species can be quantified as a form of tenacious plague, loathe to be lifted and wiped from our atypical human makeup.  It makes one wonder how men and women even manage to interact, communicate and coexist with one another.   Irrefutably drawn to their respective ‘differences’, both genders continue to harbor a deadly fascination for the other.  The French refer to that state of being as the “Vive la différence’ component.  Or is it really justified to state that this so-called ‘difference’ between the male and female species is something to be joyful about?

Could the tenacious pursuit and desire to taste that ‘difference’ in its multifold rich, tempting forms and manifestations, which sets us so uniquely apart yet draws us together like an enormous magnet, become our ‘fatal attraction’ over and over again.  Because we never learn.  The history books will tell you that.  The conclusion I can only derive at is that our state of being and how we perform and function in life, starkly projects those primeval urges we are cursed with as a force to be reckoned with; an affliction we have absolutely no control or power over to resist.  Yet some call it love…a strange bond of love and hate that has formed over the evolutionary millenniums between two unique alien species; whose very origins were birthed at opposite sides of the galaxy.

After having read the work which, despite its home hitting truths and stark realization that we are absolutely incompatible, tells me that miracles still exist.  That men and women are still somehow capable of blending in, compromise with one another’s demands to the point of utter frustration, and are even prepared to lose their self respect and pride is totally confounding to me – but oh, so very funny too!

Enjoy!

Another great book you won’t want to miss out on, when it comes to our bookshelves in the not too distant future.

David Palmer

Profile and Work

David Palmer

I was born in Rangiora, New Zealand and raised on a sheep farm. By the time I was eight my future was fixed: I loved learning and writing and I was falling in love with history and ideas. Sheep didn’t figure at all. My family for generations had produced farmers, engineers and housewives so I was furtive about my liberal arts aberration. I did tell my grandfather I wanted to be a writer, and he thrust out his stubborn no-nonsense old jaw and grumped, “What do you want to write about?” It took me thirty years to realise this was actually a wise question.

When I left high school I was shunted into a good, practical, well-paid job and fled overseas as soon as I had the money. I spent seven years living and travelling abroad. I made a proper job of it: beach-bummed in Israel, India and Thailand; hitch-hiked, biked and drove a disintegrating car around Europe; climbed pyramids; terrorised London streets as a courier; was shot at; lived in the desert; trekked in the Himalayas; slept in churchyards; had adventures down dark alleys and love affairs in all kinds of places.

Back in New Zealand I continued travelling, this time through a succession of jobs, propelled by five redundancies. Being single and frugal I decided I might as well be a freelance writer and starve on my own terms as lurch from one pointless serfdom to the next. For fifteen years I wrote on the marine industry, the aviation industry, the real estate industry, the energy industry, various other industries, and spiritual philosophy. The latter betrayed my real interest, and I gave regular talks to audiences of up to fifty on spiritual subjects. When I married and we had a son I returned to salaried work. I’m now a technical writer for a radio communications company. I sit in a cubicle and interpret acronyms. The things we do.

I had a book published by New Holland Publishers, Walking Historic Auckland: an anecdotal history. It was actually pretty good according to feedback.

I wrote the great Battle of Britain novel at the same time as James Cameron made Titanic, the link being that we both sought to draw meaning from history by marrying head and heart in a bed of factual fidelity and romantic invention. Just as I finished it a deluge of books on the battle flooded the market. I couldn’t see my weighty effort rising above this to give me financial independence; I needed to move on, so I gave up the soul-grinding search for a publisher.

I’m most of the way through writing a non-fiction book on a New Zealand squadron flying with the RAF in the Second World War. Two publishers have shown keenness. I wish getting novels published was that easy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

tn Eugene 2

Eugene Francis Elander is a published poet, journalist, newspaper columnist, and man of many careers who has several books in preparation.  His first poem, The Vision,  won the Dayton ( Ohio ) Poet’s Guild New Poet’s Prize when he was sixteen years old.  He took a break from writing poetry in order to attend college, and graduate school in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Pacific University .  After a distinguished career as a college and university professor, agency executive director, and specialist in safety and security concerns, he relocated from Connecticut to Vermont in 1994 as owner/proprietor of an old age home he had purchased.  Returning to poetry, he was chosen poet laureate of Pownal , Vermont for his poem Pownal People in 1998.

Other published poems by Mr. Elander include The Tape That Won The West, a humorous poem about duct tape as a means of protecting Americans from terrorism as advised by the Department of Homeland Security, which was anthologized in The Other Side of Sorrow.  He was selected by Poetry.com as one of The Best Poets of 2005.  His romantic poetry has been inspired by his wife, Birgit, and his first book of poems, The Right Click, is dedicated to her.  That book covers the entire history of their relationship, in verse, from their meeting over the Internet to their present life in New Hampshire and her homeland, Gotland , Sweden .  It is a heartwarming love story. They have co-authored a sequel about their travels and life together, titled: The World Click and published by Elander Press, their fledgling publishing company based in Dahlonega, Georgia and Gotland, Sweden.

Mr. Elander published a bi-weekly newspaper in New London , Connecticut from 1974 to 1984.  This ethnic newspaper won numerous awards including the coveted Best Small City Newspaper twice, and helped in the resettlement of Soviet refugees and the establishment of a family and children’s service.  Besides handling all aspects of publication, from composition to photography, Mr. Elander authored a regular column. He has also been a regular columnist for the Dayton Daily News and North Adams (MA) Transcript, and has written occasional pieces for the New York Times, Newsweek, the Binghamton Sun, the Bennington Banner, and Connecticut and New Hampshire papers.  He was a member of the official Readers Panel for the Hartford Courant newspaper which honored him as an Outstanding Letter Writer.

Other books underway include ‘The Goat of God’, a theological fantasy tracing the history of the sacrificial goat sent off into the wilderness bearing the sins of the people on the first Day of Atonement; and ‘Turning the Tide’ Against Terrorism, covering the root causes of the September 11 tragedy and how to best handle terrorism today.  His academic background in economics has led to Cooperatism: A Non-Adversarial Economic System for the New Millennium, which was the focus of his advanced work at Columbia Pacific University in San Rafael , California and is now being developed into a serious book offering a new approach to the timeless search for a better economic system.

Perhaps Mr. Elander’s proudest achievement has been the three additional verses of America the Beautiful which he authored in the wake of September 11, 2001 and which were made part of the Congressional Record.  The first of these verses reads:

Oh Beautiful, for heroes all,

In buildings, or on plane;

For those who answered to the call,

Whom we’ll not see again;

America , America , sometimes your path is hard;

But we’ll not fail, right will prevail,

With faith in you, and God.

Mr. Elander resides with his wife Birgit in  Dahlonega , Georgia  and Gotland , Sweden .  Besides serving as adjunct economics faculty at Plymouth State University and formerly Southern New Hampshire University, he was the Animal Control Officer, Deputy Code and Deputy Health Officer for Farmington , New Hampshire , and an active volunteer with Birgit.    Birgit, who retired from Business Services at the University of New Hampshire in May 2005, is author of some of the poems in The World Click, and is the inspiration for the others.

Turning the Tides cover by Eugene Elander

Book Description
Publication Date: June 3, 2009
The ancient Romans asked the question: “Who will watch the watchers?”

In our own age as we face the scourge of global terrorism, we must also ask a further question: “Who will turn the tides?” Each of us can play a role in answering both of those questions. The manner in which we answer them, the forms of our responses, the challenge of maintaining our humanity in the face of inhumanity, will determine the quality of our lives, and the fate of future generations as well. This book is dedicated to believing in a future which we can reach, and to reaching a future in which we can believe through the storyline of an everyday American, Eugene, who happened to participate in some extraordinary circumstances. Culminating in the development of the SCOPE and CENTURION programs, this novel is a must read for all those interested in watching the watchers and turning the tides against the forces of chaos and destruction.

Information is also included in the book on how to obtain a safety and security analysis based on the tenets of the SCOPE and CENTURION programs.

“EMPOWERMENT” Taking Charge of Your Life

Empowerment large cover Empowerment_TakingChargeofyourLife Eugene Elander

Book Description
Publication Date: February 11, 2014
In Chapter One of Walden, Henry David Thoreau notes that “the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation.” EMPOWERMENT: TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE advises its readers on just how to avoid that “desperation trap” through a set of specific approaches to effective handling of our daily financial and economic challenges. Nothing could be more important to our lives.

Consumer economist and author Dr. Eugene F. Elander explains clearly and thoroughly, step by effective step, how each of us can take control of our lives away from the many corporate, government, and agency forces which seek to dominate us and determine our decisions. This allows us to become “the masters of our fates and the captains of our souls” as William Ernest Henley put it. We can become Empowered; we deserve no less.

You can take charge of your own destiny by learning and applying techniques which allow you to deal effectively with “the system” – the forces which seek to control us and our lives. Chapter by chapter and step by step, Empowerment: Taking Charge of Your Life provides tried and true ways of dealing with common issues and solving real-life problems.

For all of us who are frustrated trying to cope with an increasingly-impersonal system which neglects our needs, Empowerment:Taking Charge of Your Life by Dr. Eugene F. Elander will provide a key set of answers.

“THE GOAT OF GOD”

The Goat of God cover - Eugene Elander

Book Description

Publisher: Solstice Publishing
Publication Date: February 27, 2014
Meet Zael, The Goat of God, the first scapegoat in history, upon whom the sins of the Hebrew people were placed in the Sinai Desert on the very first Day of Atonement. Zael is sent off into the wilderness, called Azazael, according to biblical tradition. The Goat of God traces Zael’s transition from goat to human in order to bear those sins, becoming a witness to history in the process.

More than that, Zael is tasked to develop and edit the Old Testament, the chronicle of the ancient Israelite people. Because of the burden of sins, not his own, which had been placed upon him, Zael cannot either age or die until his task is completed. The Testament he ultimately produces goes far beyond human history, however, as it also details the presence and evolving role of the Almighty in that history. The book ends with a unique meeting between The Goat of God and The Prince of Peace, Jesus.

The Goat of God is inspiring for people of all faiths, without being preachy, according to a professional critique done on the book. Zael journeys throughout the ancient Middle East, but his spiritual journey is one which we may take today, in our own lives, as we seek answers to humanity’s eternal questions. Zael’s quest is mirrored in the spiritual search we all endeavor.

Four years after the bloody Boxer Rebellion of 1900, the wounded lands of China had grown resentful of all things Western. Known as ‘The Middle Kingdom’ to the Chinese people, their capital city was no place for a lone Scotsman.

David was born and raised in the Scottish Highlands where he spends his days enjoying his family, the affections of his true love, Rose, and having an after-dinner drink with friends. Life is good in the brisk-green hillsides of David’s beloved Scotland.

But David’s life takes a sharp turn when he discovers his fiancée sleeping with a relative, leaving David brokenhearted and anxious to follow a recent vision compelling him to the exotic and faraway country known as The Middle Kingdom where the answers to his questions lie.

David sets out on an arduous voyage over land and sea in his search for closure. His aching-heart is the least of his trials when his journey becomes a dangerous quest, encountering pirates, bandits, and a bevy of lusty ladies with questionable motives.
