About Our Client and Author John Tomaino

Picture Our Author JOHN TOMAINO lives in Melbourne, Australia, and spent much of his criminal justice career in South Australia. Per capita, the sleepy “City of Corpses” is home to more serial killers than anywhere else in Australia.

He received his PhD in Criminology while still in his 20’s and has published three Criminology textbooks used throughout Australian universities.

In his spare time, John writes original pop/rock music and has placed his songs with Sir Paul McCartney’s MPL Publishing catalogue in New York.

After winning The Advertiser Short Fiction Competition, John turned his mind to writing his first novel: The White Room. Challenging the reader to redefine the shifting boundaries of their normality, it is a dark thriller about the effects of labels on people; the influence of those in authority; and the state of neglected psychiatric institutions and people.

The author has:

  • Published 2 fiction shorts stories: one in the US and one in Australia.
  • Published 3 Criminal Justice textbooks as well as numerous journal articles in internationally referred academic journals.
  • Provides regular articles on crime issues for the Australian Women’s Weekly (circulation approx 1 Million).
  • Is a media commentator on crime issues, including both electronic (nightly News) and print media.
  • Dabbling in various other ventures, John also signed as a Record Producer to “Blue Pie Records” – one of the largest independent record labels in the world, to produce some of their “Icon” artists.

Picture Synopsis: Adult Fiction Psychological Thriller
No sound. No natural light. No human contact. Ever. A ground breaking study with only one thing missing: a human guinea pig.
Based loosely on the real-life experiences of a researcher who voluntarily admitted herself into a psychiatric institution – and had trouble getting out – The White Room is an intriguing dark thriller designed to challenge the reader with its authentic and chilling portrayal of the effects of labels on people; the influence of those in authority; and the state of neglected psychiatric institutions and patients.

Adult Fiction Psychological Thriller

Linda Rosek was the understudy to Broadway legend Chantelle Riviera. Linda’s chance to perform could only come if Chantelle fell sick. But Linda didn’t want to fill in for the night. Or even the season. Sickness would only be temporary, but Linda would discover that fame, like tragedy, is everlasting.
At first, Linda learnt Chantelle’s lines. Then she copied her mannerisms, socialized with her friends, and gradually adopted her lifestyle. But it was a lifestyle she couldn’t maintain. Not unless she made an extraordinary demand: a new face for Chantelle, courtesy of plastic surgery. Not an improved face, but Linda’s face. In the spotlight, where it belonged.
There was only room for one Broadway legend in Stardoom, a cautionary tale about the hazards of fame and the loss of identity.

The Statue of Saint Menaus had been the source of controversy amongst the townspeople for centuries. Some worshipped at the foot of the biblical monument, while others dared not approach it, frightened by generations of folklore about the saint who had succumbed to Satan…
